Hello guys/girls.

We're about to partake on a mammoth sports tour of Florida over the next couple of weeks, coming from England and visiting Miami, Boca Raton and then finally Jacksonville.

One of our party is a Dolphins fan so we're heading to Sun Life for the game on Thursday, and finishing with the Jags-Panthers game as I'm a big Panther fan and will be getting to see them play live for the first time.

We're also going to get to the Hurricanes game against Bethune-Cookman next weekend, as well as the FAU game the week after. I guess you're now our newly adopted College team!

We have tickets all sorted for both games, but for next Saturday we're still a little in the dark about Sun Life, what happens on gameday and what to do in order to get the best experience at a Hurricanes game! If you have any advice/tips on what we should be looking at doing next Saturday then please go ahead! The stadium is looking brilliant following the renovations and we all can't wait to visit!

As I said, any advice or tips are more than welcome. If I do end up meeting any of you at Sun Life or in Boca Raton then great, but if not look out for our Union Jack!
Cheers!

Welcome and just to make sure your expectations are accurate. We have goalposts, a round ball and use our hands here. In regards to Sun Life, ask for the Blue Lot Boyz and code word is "bodybaglyfe". Enjoy your time here and whatever you do, do not buy a white tshirt in the Canes bookstore with an orange tie on it.

Thats awesome man, sounds like it should be a great time, usually before football games, people get there a couple hours earlier and tailgate. Basically bbq and drink prior to game, lots of fun, meet and make new friends and games. You dont have to do it but if you are attending multiple games, you should check it out atleast once for experience I guess.

Im sure you will get more detailed info, some people are hoping this season will be the end of a dark era of hurricane football, not too optimistic because main decision makers suck at their job but with if past results hold up, we will be shopping for new coach soon. Maybe you will get to see Hurricanes return to glory in next couple years! Welcome aboard!

I guess I will be the one to give you an honest answer...

First, let me say thank you for choosing the Miami Hurricanes. Unfortunately, you have chosen us at a time when we are at our worst. When I was introduced to Chelsea FC by an English friend, they were winning titles regularly so it was easy to become a fan. You sir, will not have that luxury. That being said, please do not let the emptiness of the stadium dissuade you from becoming a Hurricane fan. We need all we can get right now. Historically, Miami vs Bethune Cookman has always been along the lines of Chelsea v. Tranmere Rovers, but its actually more like West Brom v. Tranmere. For this reason, there will not be much of a turnout. We are a small university playing in a giant stadium, as well as being a storied program in the doldrums. Fan turnout will not be great.

You can have a good time at a game, however. If you want to get the full experience, get to the stadium early. Bring a cooler full of beer and some food, pre-cooked or bring a grill to cook. The gates to the parking lot open 3 hours before kickoff. Try to get a spot in the west parking lot, close to the stadium. There will be plenty of eye candy roaming around for you to gawk at from your tailgate. If you happen to get in a row where the students are, it tends to get a little crazy but it's worth it. About 30 minutes before kickoff, make your way in and enjoy the game. You should follow a similar plan to tailgate for the Dolphin game. Beers inside will be expensive so drink what you can outside.

Welcome to the States! You won't be seeing the best game, as BC should be greatly outmatched. The stadium will be half empty and there's nothing to walk to nearby (unlike Chelsea). There's a casino less than a mile away, but not a great one. No racing there anymore.

As above, go early for tailgating. You can't bring beer in and it's ungodly expensive in there, so get your drunk on early. Many UM fans will welcome you, share some food, beer, laughs. Others are real jerks, as evidenced by this thread - and will mock you for just being a Brit. Hope to see you there.

"what to do in order to get the best experience at a Hurricanes game!'

Obtain the Time Machine, go to the Marlins' stadium, set machine to 1986 and enjoy.

I feel bad that your first exposure to college football will be the crappiest UM team in decades.

Anyway if you've never been to a game before, I suggest stopping by a Publix (grocery store) , buying some beer, subs, any other food you want, and getting to the game a little early. You can park your car in the lot and drink and eat before the game. You may run into some jerks butpeople will think it is cool that you're from the UK and want to see the canes and you can have a good time tailgating. Tailgating is what we call hanging out outside the stadium before a game.

Back at around the time of our last championship, there were 2 British couples that came to many games (home and road). The story was that they had won some massive British lottery, and decided to follow American sports. They chose to follow The U (as it used to be called), and would fly back and forth on game weekends.

Does anyone else remember them, or what happened to them?

Thanks for the responses (at least those of you that did so properly! :chuncky:)

I have been to a couple of College games in America, but both were on neutral sites which kind of spoilt the experienced. Other than that, it's just the 10/15 NFL games at Wembley that I've been to, so I guess this will be quite a bit different even if we try doing the whole tailgating thing (badly.)

Appears that there isn't much confidence surrounding you guys this year. I know you've fallen on harder times recently, but I can assure you that I'm more than used to this as a Bradford City fan back in the UK, so maybe it's a perfect fit. Hope to see plenty of you there!
