First Federal NIL Bill

The only solution to all this is schools creating a brand new governing body that can enforce salary cap rules. I think players should be paid, I don't think it should be completely unregulated. There needs to be salary caps and the governing body needs to establish what is true NIL versus loopholes.

Stephen Ross can't negotiate a deal with a player he wants where he pays him $20M a year, staying under the salary cap, but then colludes with Joe Schmo who owns the car dealership and agrees to pay him an extra $10M for a "marketing deal", making the deal actually worth $30M.

There's no way this current situation is sustained.

The genie is already out of the bottle. Stop trying to force government regulations and let the free market handle things. That's why I hate Ted Cruz. He's always trying to increase the size of the government with regulations. Letting socialists like Nick Saban tell his sob story about why everybody can't have their equal share of a pie someone else worked for. If a school can't keep up, that's tough. This is a business. Schools are a business. He wants players to "create value for themselves." Well 2 million dollars in NIL as a ******* ADULT creates some great value.

What does he want? A player to learn by sitting for 2-3 years so he can have a "fun experience" and learn values only to maybe go to the league and be spit out in a few years like everyone else with nothing left to show for it but depression and CTE that his entire life work was really to be used for entertainment for me? Football is the greatest reality show of all time. But that's what it is.

****** pussies.

Oh the irony...

The whole thing is so complicated. Endorsement deals are basically loop holes. There's no real way to limit them. I've posted multiple times on this board that its going to end in unionization and I still think its inevitable.

Tbh, I just don't see how regulation of any kind is possible.

The only thing rules, a governing body or any kind of regulation would do is limit player earnings. Even IF the courts didn't shoot it down, there's no scenario in which players would be fine with limiting their own earnings, while conferences, schools and TV networks raked in hundreds of millions.

If schools/conferences countered with "let us pay you directly", would they still be considered amateurs? Who'd negotiate with schools/conferences? Probably a players union.

If congress creates an amateurism law, what happens if players decide they're no longer amateurs?

If the NCAA tries to create new rules, the B1G and SEC can break away from the NCAA, making their rules unenforceable.

Its a mess.

It's not really a mess. Players can get paid and people are still upset about it. The only thing they should do is make sports betting (as an active player or coach) result in an automatic lifetime ban and forfeiture of wins, records, the like. No reason why there's all this whining and uproar. People want the sport to be what it was 10-20 years ago. Too late. Time to move on. The only complicated thing is getting people to let go.

Sen. Ted Cruz introduces NIL bill, says college sports 'are in peril'

First of all, **** Ted Cruz. Universally disliked and useless as is any NIL Bill possibly even getting through this dysfunctional Congress

Saban and Bama broke the system. Blatant cheating and paying coaches crazy $ is what started all of this. Schools got sick of the NCAA “chosen few” having free rein with no repercussions. Emmert let Saban do whatever he wanted and this is the result.
I just smash "like" button on all your porsts based on outstanding avatar and screen name game you got going on.

Well done.

coaches and schools rake in huge $$$$ = no problem
Players make some $$ = we can't have THAT
As someone who's seen both sides of this first hand, this CANT go on like this. The only coach who makes real money is the head coach and to a lesser extent both coordinators. The school operates at a huge loss at most places and exists off of state funding unless ur private like us. The school needs this money that comes in because it's what keeps them afloat. Players on the other hand everyone wants a piece of this now to some extent and their isn't boosters at most spots in place to make it sustainable or scalable. Especially when you consider atleast 40 to 50 kids(a conservative number)making legit money through nil. Where the ncaa has been wrong forever is the whole stance of amateur sports so zero funds available beyond financial aid packages to students. It needs to be some kind of set number and that's it. The way this **** is benefits us to an extent right now. But it's not sustainable no matter what kind of pockets you got behind you.

I was fascinated by the guy at Washington that DeBoer took with him to Alabaga. IIRC his approach was to spread out the NIL money to the roster and ensure as many quality players on your team rather than go after a few big whales.

But I hear Brooklyn. Like with anything the very very few deep deep pocket schools (TAMU, Texas to name two) will eventually overwhelm everyone else. Then where will this sport be?

Under the Constitution - I don't find the Federal Government has a right to do one hundredth of what they already do - which should be the states business.

And I find the NIL nowhere. None of Feds business.

Every single thing the Federal Government touches - turns to pure siht. And then to fix it - they throw more money in - resulting in even MORE siht.

Like we don't have enough problems already that need addressing. How about delete the ATF? Housing and Urban Development? EPA? Department of Education? DHS? And another 200-300 departments and agencies?

I never trust the government to get anything right.

Well. They haven't yet.

Just do like they're supposed to - standardize weights and measurements, coin money, and provide for General Welfare - not Welfare in General.

They could meet a time or two during a year for a week or so - and then go home like their supposed to.

Talk about low taxes . . .

Playing football for the University of Miami is not a God given right. If the schools choose to be governed by a single body then any player signing up to play for that school, in that league, will be forced to play by the rules as part of their contract. The SEC and BIG10 will just basically say, if you want to play football here you need to follow these rules. I agree, once that happens, the players will unionize, but that's how the NFL operates.

As far as endorsement deals go, I'm pretty sure the NFL has collusion language so that players cannot skirt salary cap restrictions via endorsement deals. In college it would be pretty easy to govern that. Boosters are explicitly tied to schools. Getting a deal from the guy who owns the dealership in Alabama, as opposed to Nike, would be easy to establish collusion intent if it's egregious.

If they want to govern it they can. I mean, there's an identical league to draw experience from. College will become the NFL. That's just what's going to happen.

Let me start by saying I'm all about free market when it's applicable. However, what most of you guys that are completely on the side of unregulated wild wild west players getting paid as much as possible with NIL and them deserving a piece of whatever pie they are supposedly owed fail to realize is that it's further ruined the sport.

College Football has never been about the individual players and It's not about the name on the back of the ******* jersey. I can guarantee you that you take those logos off those helmets, those names off the front of those jerseys, and the team the said individual plays for off the table the interest of the fan to watch that person declines dramatically. Players are only at these Universities 3/4 years, some less due to the portal and then are replaced with a new group of players that we become fans of. The Universities themselves, Game Day Atmosphere, Rivalries, and Alumni interest in the school they went to is what is the draw to make the sport popular, put asses in seats/bleachers, and eyes locked on TV's.

Schools are not a **** business. The sport was supposed to be amateur athletes using their physical talents to get a scholarship to a University a good bit of them would not be able to get into academically. There was your trade off where you given a free education, meals, housing, equipment, training and a platform after high school were you could showcase your talents for the next level if you were good enough to play professionally or get the networking with all the Alumni/Connections to get a job after you graduated. All that cost money that the players were already getting paid tax free indirectly for their contributions. Maybe I'm just old school, but I don't get this current mentality thinking your owed something immediately without putting in the **** work over time. When does this **** end with you guys? Does the High School players and their parents need NIL deals and get paid as well?

I agree that the NCAA's uneven hand of enforcing the rules, Nick Saban, and the SEC (Brown Bag Mafia) played a major roll of bastardizing the system. However, the NIL and the players have now further screwed it up. The real solution would have been a Semi Pro League/Farm system being created so the higher level athlete that had not interested in remaining an amateur and wanted to get paid immediately with endorsements had an avenue to go.

I sure as **** hope we are able to get into the SEC or B1G because if not we'll be one of the after thought programs playing to just get into the playoffs like those small schools with the NCAA Basketball Tournament. We might was well go down a division.

"It's whoever wants to pay, the most money raised, the most money to buy the most players hire the best coaches is going to have the best opportunity to win."

It's funny that none of these coaches complain about how much money schools are spending on coaches and how much their salaries have gone up.

Also, how many of the people complaining are free-market people otherwise?
ALL OF THIS

People would be shocked if they knew how little revenue athletic departments actually bring in. Not many sports are profitable.

Year to year NIL reminds me of back when NFL rookie contracts used to be uncapped. Every year, draft picks wanted more money than guys the year before. Eventually they ended up with rookies getting more guaranteed money than some all pros. That's where I'm worried NIL is headed. Every year the top players are going to want to be the highest paid ever, and there's nothing really stopping that from happening until booster pockets are empty. But by that point, we're talking about incredible amounts of money.

It has ruined yes I agree. But it's too late. Schools are most definitely a business. No one goes for free. Scholarship money comes from somewhere. If you have been a head, worked in a front office, or know someone in charge you'll know that 90% of the job revolves around money. You can be great but of you don't raise money you're out. Why do you think schools are bolting for B1G and SEC when they are making tens of millions where they are? They can make 100 over there.

It took you 193 days to come up with this?

Let me mark you down in "revenge best served deep freeze" category.

Teddy been to Cancun 15 times and back by now.

🤣🤣🤣🤣
Okay no idea what the 193 days reference is , just commenting on the “round table” for that fat ****
