First drive.. what happened afterwards? Football talk...

So I was at the game last night (from Maryland)with 2 of my sons. Spent $3k (Since it was last minute) on hotel, good tickets, flights etc and it was worth every penny.

I'm reading the board and seeing a lot of basically "the offense took what the defense gave."

But I'm wondering about the first drive.

First drive we go straight down the field and scored a quick and what looked like an easy TD..quick passes. Tempo. Good blocking in the run game. And no need for long blocks in the pass game because the passes came out so quick. WRs picking up YAC because they made catches in stride. Just smooth and easy.

My sons and I looked at each other and said "we're going to score 50+! That was too easy!"

Then the rest of the game the offense looked completely different.

Did FSU change something on D after the first drive? Looking at the highlights it looks like they were playing cover 2 with the safeties most of the first drive and we just were hitting short/underneath routes. The tempo seemed to open up the pass and run game.

Did Dawson just change things up? Did Cam just stop taking the short underneath stuff? Was it just the first drive script and Dawson ran out of good stuff? Or was that the plan to get up quickly and then focus on dominating the line of scrimmage and running clock?

If I'm adding up the drive chart correctly Cam was 4/5 for 53 yards on a 67 yard drive (1 yard short of a TD pass as well.)

I was drunk but from my seats it appeared FsU started to press after that first drive also they started to blitz.

Miami also had multiple penalties and or sacks on rundowns that put them behind the sticks. It was choppy and didn’t have a rhythm. Other side of it was Miami ran for like 7yd per run so why not just keep at it.

Cam missed a couple throws as well. FSU shortened the game by running clock. Miami could’ve/should’ve probably scored over 40pts if they just cleaned a couple things up on offense.

We scored on 7 of 9 drives.

The game was never in doubt and we made our arch rival QUIT ON THE FIELD while putting in all backups on their final drive.

I hate our fanbase. Just miserable energy vampires who ***** about anything or conjure up hypothetical what if scenarios that are only negative in nature.

this was what i saw. FSU has a couple of really good press man corners on their roster, which is pretty rare in CFB. frankly i'm not sure why they even bothered starting that first drive playing off, but for most of the game they played really physical on the backend and toed the line when it came to holding, PI, etc.

Are people not allowed to ask valid questions and have a discussion on it? Come on man, I know some people are whining far too much but this post doesn’t appear to be a great example of that. OP brought up a valid question because the offense definitely went pretty flat and Ward didn’t have a great game. It’s okay to be a little critical

It’s actually crazy because the offense, if we’re being honest, had its ugliest game of the season and still almost broke 40. If Ward had found more of a rhythm, this could have been a 70+ bloodbath of a game. FSU is THAT bad this season and the offense legitimately great when running smoothly.

Nobody can dissect the game and ask questions? Just look at the win loss column and stfu is your attitude. The discussion of the game, what worked, what didn’t, is the entire reason this board exists. You just want us all to sit around going rah rah. How fun is that?

Fsu pressured Cam with a mix of blitzes and what looked like 6-7 on the line. That along with strong secondary coverage, frustrated him. The running game was working, so we had less attempts passing and much more rushing. We took what we could get. Not what he and we are use to, but we still dominated.
I’m spoiled and wanted to see what we all wanted, but it wasn’t there.

That 1st drive was a punch in their mouth. They knew it was coming, but they were on their heels. After seeing it, their game plan of pressing Cam had some success.

I was complaining earlier that the complaining wasn't aggressive enough.

Low energy, no focus, quilting club *****ing.

We need I-want-to-speak-to-the-manager Karen levels of committed koo koo *****ing over a price tag mismatch at Target about our Canes W by 22 over FSU.

I will say this…I kinda got away from it in the 2h…But FSU did adjust late 1q and 2q…They were smothering the wr screens and other short stuff.
