First beem of the ipf up

I went to the U in the late eighties and early nineties .... we are much better off with what we have today. ... I have been to countless games at the OB including the night games vs ND and Houston.. The Hard Rock this year was just as good or even better.

Some of you who bought into the $200 million farce promise of the City, you have no idea what the situation was back then.

.... everybody back in those days knew that the city would never spend that money. The corrupt city council (including the Mayor) was looking to line their own pockets and building for the Marlins meant more bag money than UM. This included unfortunately our current DC's dad who couldn't wait to blow up the OB before any further lawsuits from Mr Braman or others.

It all turned out for the better for us in the long run.... the worst decade and a half of U football is behind and the sun is shining once again. We have an exciting team, staff and an awesome stadium to play in. ... I drive down with my boys from Orlando for the home games and what a joy it is .... like coming home. We are so blessed. Lets keeping it rockin'!!!

Christ, you can build a whole stadium for $200 million. You don't think you can renovate one for that?

Huh?

Christ you're deluded.

A whole stadium for $200 million? Maybe an erector set like the one at UCF.

But a 75,000 seat Orange Bowl? Not a chance in ****.

The Dolphins renovated Hard Rock in a similar fashion to what the Orange Bowl would've needed. Almost a complete overhaul. It cost twice as much as that ($400 million)

and ucf is about to pay the price for being cheap. the stadium has a serious rust problem that is about to affect its structural integrity.

Lol @ the university's shills coming out of the woodwork every time this issue is raised.

Not saying you're paid trolls, but funny that you have like 30 posts apiece and you come out of your burrows for this issue only. Interesting.

Yeah ok guys, 200 million dollars is peanuts. That's what you're selling right? ROFLMAO you can't make this **** up.

Are you an alum? What year? Just trying to put this in context.

Obviously not an alum if he's berating people for supporting the University. Some of these guys hate the students and alumni of the University, it's pretty crazy.

Yep....

Thing is about to collapse if nothing is done in the next ten years. Metal and constant rain. Well done idiots.

UM would have never had the political clout and "donations" to get the city not to tear down the OB.

It would have been a massive project to overhaul a building built before World War II.

They would have been better off tearing it down and building a new stadium on the existing spot, but the Marlins bought and sold their way to that land and Loria hit the road in less than 10 years.

We're already 40% of the way through the HRS lease as it stands, and we're playing in a world class facility.

WRONG. I graduated in '04.

There's a difference between supporting the university and supporting the dip****s who ran it back in 2008.

UM is the biggest employer in Dade County. They have a load of clout.

You remember that time Royal Caribbean threw their weight around and blocked David Beckham from building a stadium near the port?

UM has that kind of clout, perhaps more.

Shalala said herself she didn't WANT the city to renovate the OB. Why spend that kind of money on 6 games a year, is what she said.

So we needed a roof, four jumbo trons, a club, etc?

SMH no. 200 million would have been more than sufficient to fix up the structural issues.

Nice. You likely saw some great years while you were there then.

Look I love the OB as much as anyone and was broken up when they tore it down (there's an illegally-obtained seat from the old girl hanging on my wall behind me). I'm just trying to give you some more information. I was there and had conversations with the athletic department and Shalala when this was happening. Now, you don't have to believe anything I or anyone else on here says but, since you care so much about the team and school, I thought you'd benefit from another perspective.

When something goes wrong or turns out a way we don't like, we always look to someone to blame. I'm sure sometimes people have blamed you for things they shouldn't have. Other times we just fail at things. I'm dumbfounded by the constant killing of a lady who dedicated 15 years to the school, raised almost $3 billion for the school, and improved the academic ranking of the school by like 20 spots. The things some on here blame her for is ludicrous. Don't get it.

Gonna call bullsht on that one.

Are you actually suggesting a private university has the same ability to spend on politicians that a company with a nearly $30B market cap has?

Loudest I ever heard a stadium get was in the OB (Shockey game). The blocky/no blocky added lots of character.

But the OB was a dump. Seats were uncomfortable, traffic was a joke. Bathrooms were a bunch of guys hanging around a trough. The place smelled bad, and it was falling down. Whole thing needed to go, and if you're going cheap, it's got to be on campus - which was never an option.

It took me a while to get there, but the Hard Rock renovations made this the right choice for the school.

Soooooo is this a thread about the IPF?? Came here for updates and all I see is a bunch of poRsters flinging **** at each other.

Considering that this is Miami, not some podunk town, having amenities is important. People don't show up to Miami Hurricane football games just because the team is good, they show up for the event. Making it an event, by having top shelf amenities is crucial, it also opens up revenue opportunities for the program.

Yes.

The artist renderings released in 2003-04 had a reduced capacity (to about 65,000), chairback seats, new scoreboards, new concourses, etc.

So basically just like Hard Rock Stadium.

You really think the city was only going to spend money to shore up the structural issues but not actually improve the facility?

What a joke.

Miami still doesn't have clout like that though. Tulane is the largest employer in New Orleans. It doesn't mean they can throw their weight around like that. Miami can't either like that (more that Tulane obviously). Both can for other things, but not as much athletically. It's not like UGA in Atlanta would be, or Bama in Birmingham, or UF in Orlando.

**** that. ****ing from the upper deck onto to schmucks in the lower deck was part of the ambience.
