Program is obviously in the best shape it’s been in 20 years.

Still have to get over the hump though and start winning or at least seriously competing for championships to really make it meaningful.

But I’m glad we’re no longer a perpetual laughing stock anymore. It’s a good football team, built to last with a very high floor going forward.

Mario has to prove he has a ceiling, though. Even if somehow we don’t get lucky and get into the dance or Charlotte, we must beat Pitt. The whole world, and half this board, is busting at the seams to point and laugh if we fall on our face. Have to go up there and get a dub and at worst finish this year 10-2 again.

Ok but when we hired him he was paid at least a top 10 salary. Maybe Top 5-8? @TheOriginalCane might remember.

I know there was talk of Mario being up there when he was hired, but I'm not sure that he was.

He got a massive amount in Year 1, because of the tax gross-up for his buyout of his Oregon contract. But everything I've seen said his base is $7.7 million.

I'm posting a link from 2024 (two years later) that says he has the #16 salary at that particular time. It also says he is 3rd in the ACC, behind Dabo and Prison Mike. I'd imagine that Dabo was always paid more, and Prison Mike may have surpassed Mario in 2023 after his "undefeated 13-1 season".

Mario was probably anywhere from Top 5 to Top 12 (BASE) when he first signed in 2022. He got the $7.7 M in year 1 plus $14.9 M (income-tax-grossed-up) to pay his $9 M buyout at Oregon.

Today we’re getting what we pay for salary wise. Not sure about the NIL aspect as that’s probably top 5-8?

You are correct about the 7.7 average which is what I've seen as well before any bonuses.

What's wild is that going into next year that probably puts him at 5th or 6th in the ACC behind Dabo, Prison Mike, Lashlee, Belichick and Franklin (ACV)

5th or 6th in the acc, pretty much where we are ranked in the conference today, seems fair.

Loving the play from the freshmen this year... next year I'd like to see a QB step up, particularly Nickel... but Mali may be a QB option as well.
