first back to back 9 win seasons in eight years

Where was he ranked when we hired him in terms of salary?
Not sure. I could only find numbers for this season.

For the record, Mario makes less than Deion Sanders, Mark Stoops and Matt Rhule. South Carolina paid Shane Beamer 150k less than we pay Mario. Wisconsin pays Luke Fickell about $400 grand less a year. Bill Belicheck made almost 2 million more dollars than Mario this year.

We’re so used to hiring minimum wage coaches, we think we broke the bank to pay the 17th highest paid coach.

Biggest difference with Mario is he has done the best job of acquiring impactful talent since Butch. And that means a lot.

The 22 class didn’t count, and there were some hiccups with 23. But 24, 25 and now 26 are proving to be successes.

He’s got a great eye for evaluating talent and finding the guys who truly love football. Just keep stacking talent and make 10-win seasons our floor.

Somebody who’s not a former player or have any affiliation with Miami
that's easy ... but who gone come here and activate the money as well as fend off the likes of luther campbell and co, and not get shook down by the local coaches?

Cfp or not I want the W next week and can we finally win a F’n bowel game..11 wins and I’m a happy camper

So what you’re saying is Mario is a good HC? An acceptable one? Am accomplished one? Which is he?
Yes he is a good college head coach that knows how to run and build a program. Is he an x’s and o’s type hc? No

Can he improve with some gameday stuff? Absolutely

But the same can be said about the majority of college HC’s. Seen plenty of good teams with horrible clock management

Can we also state that from his first year to this year that he has gone and addressed issues to improve the team and program every year? Resoundingly yes. We can criticize him for his decisions that created those issues, but we can also fairly credit him for addressing them right after as well and not being stubborn.

He succeeded at Oregon and is succeeding here as well. So he is accomplished, is it to the level we all want? No not yet. But lets not forget he inherited a program that was a **** show, and they came in and GUTTED it out and rebuilt from ground up and in year 4, we are looking at potentially back to back 10 win seasons for the first time in 22 years, the program has improved every year. This year if they don’t make the CFP it is a complete ***** job by the committee if they finish the year 10-2. Look at the resumes of all the potential 10-2 teams and you would be hard pressed not to rationally say this team deserves a spot.

And again how did Mario’s coaching throw those 4 int’s against Louisville in a game we barely lost and had a chance to actually win or tie at the end until Carson Testaverde threw the 4th int? In fact would it also not be fair to say the fact the team was still able to be in that position at the end of the game is also attributable to the staff improving the talent and keeping them focused on staying in the game until Carson, sorry wait Mario, threw that last int?

This is a 13 win roster with a 7 win coaching staph.

Nine wins makes total sense.

Just curious, if mario isn't elite, and he seems to be the ceiling for the coach we can get, what are the expectations of the fan base moving forward? I have no complaints with his ability to recruit and evaluate talent but would like him to evolve as a gameday coach for sure but if not him who is the guy to lead this program?

they won't give you a reasonable answer ... miami is a different animal

I've given up on winning a bowl game win as an accomplishment or loss as a negative since a quarter of each team won't even be playing in it. Gotta love what college football has turned into.

Exactly. We just need to hope mario evolves and becomes a much more aggressive gameday coach instead of banging his head against the wall with his methodical ball control bull****. We aint getting nick Saban coming thru those doors

Ok but when we hired him he was paid at least a top 10 salary. Maybe Top 5-8? @TheOriginalCane might remember.

if the expectations are to not compete for titles then be honest with the fanbase and well adjust accordingly (also adjust your ticket pricing as well to the same).

Mario has been our best coach sans richt since butch left and has raised the talent profile but has hit a ceiling due to the way he coaches and views a game. we wont break that ceiling until he shifts his mentality in the way he wants to win.

for now, we have 2 straight 9 win years and likely b2b 10 win seasons with the most talent we've had since 03 and have two straight pop tart bowls to show for it (1 with the number 1 overall pick and the other with an elite D and top 10 picks).

The million dollar question is can Mario elevate from here. The people who knew him when he was hired warned us that the days of 5-7 wins were over but 9-10 wins were his ceiling and that's exactly who we are even with maybe the top 2 portal QBs back to back.
He elevated the program already it’s a national power on the trail and portal. How long it took Jim at UM with a caveman offense and trash qb. Miami is already looked at differently when they arrive to a HS game or offer a Hs kid. It’s different again

hit a ceiling in year 4?, I mean I could buy that year 7 or 8, his 1st full recruiting class is Juniors, the team gets better every year, this won't be close to our best team under Mario

Jim won double digits 3 out of 4 years or something similar

4 years is all you need to judge a coach
