This is not a normal firearm thread - so after this has run its course - then maybe we can add it to the firearms thread.
To me - this is exciting news. The .44 Automag is coming back - this time a quality piece, previous problems corrected - and most important - ammo will be available without resorting to some piddle-schit ammo company in Mexico. For reloaders - Starline Brass is turning out the brass for the .44 AMP, or automagpistol.
This time around they had to change from the original 416 steel as this was part of the reliability problem - and are going with 410 stainless steel - which won't crack - ever.
This time, they have the benefit of using CNC precision machining and that combined with better steel is going to ensure tighter tolerances, superior reliability, and once that CNC programming is set - everything works like a Swiss watch.
They're still tweaking the upper - although testing has proven flawless - but they're wanting to ensure the quality and reliability is as close to perfect as possible - something that once developed - can continue throughout subesquent production. They want to do this one right at every step, and avoid all the mistakes the previous underfunded endeavors attempted.
The lower, or lower frame is much easier to machine - as all the good, but complicated **** on this rotary bolt pistol is up top - so complete pistols should be available within just a few months. The hard part is done.
The first production models will have the 6.5" barrel, with an 8.5" barrel coming later. They're going to skin one cat at a time - and make each skinning as thorough as possible.
For the unwashed - the Automag was originally designed to be an automatic with almost identical ballistics to the .44 magnum revolver, and the cases for the .44AMP is based on a shortened .308 round. Of course a dedicated reloader can make his own brass, but it's a pain in the ***, and the availability of ammo from SBR Ammunition in Brunswick, Georgia, or at least already prepared brass from Starline will be a significant improvement over the original.
If they follow what evolved originally, they'll also make an Automag in .357AMP. And in the planning is a .45WinMag.
It's going to cost. About $3,500 - but you can believe that the early runs will be one demonstration in quality - but - you'll never really lose money on a quality Automag. An entire new upper can also be had for about $1,500 - $1,600, which will enable a lot of current original Automag owners to upgrade their originals.
This is not a pistol for candyasses. Nor s, Goober-Smoochers, or those who wear their shorts backwards.
You gotta have fuzz on your doo-dads, and enough hair on your *** to weave an Indian blanket. No exceptions.
