Fire Shannon Dawson

Love fletcher coming back. That’s huge. It would be even better if we didn’t have to hide Gerard Pringle. He’s too good. Gotta get him blocking
If fletcher plays how he did this CFP **** be great next season. I still think he should declare. This CFP performance imo has him as a 3rd rounder tbh. Weak RB draft too.

I don't at all get why Pringle didn't get any PT in CFP basically. The pass blocking **** is annoying. Indiana rushed 3 like 10x more than they rushed 5...

Bro regardless how important you think TE is as a true threat in this offense, the reality is we utilize 1-2 TE on basically every single play. And you need a guy who is a threat on clear passing downs too. Just is what it is. Why the **** are we going to say it's okay to have an obviously bad starting TE group when they play this much and are used so critically in the run game? Like at the end of the day Bauman was liike 7th most snaps on the ENTIRE ******* OFFENSE this year! That is not an exageration. If that's how often a single TE is going to be used, we need a top player at TEU. Simple as that. They can't be that much of a liability. Period.
We run 11 personnel for the majority of our plays this year, so yea a te is always on the field and bauman has alot of snaps he is the starting TE. I never said it was ok for the starter to be a bad player, who would want a bad player anywhere.

I said some people overstate how important a TE is to our pass game, the tight ends mario/dawson and mostly all teams pro and college want is mainly a guy who can block so they can contribute to the run game

So yea we need someone better than bauman but its like some people here always want to mention TE usage when the offense doesn’t produce but when it does nobody cares. Like last year we had a historically great offense and people were complaining about te targets lol

We need someone who is definitely a threat in the pass game, cant have a terrible player their but the most important value our tight ends bring is the contributions to the run game. If we wanted an elite wr their then we would just go 4 wrs. Which is why i said arroyo is a rare player for us because he was high level at both.

Yeah blocking is obviously the most important thing the TE does in Dawson's offense. Bauman's block that sprang Fletcher's long TD added more value than we lost when he dropped the ball that Ponds lit him up on.

We do run him deep on passes a lot so I appreciate what @Calinative is saying. Pretty pointless when he isn't really a threat.

I think the simple and correct answer as to why we didn't have 4 WR on the field at the end of the game is because we don't really have 4 WR on this team, which gets back to your original point that Dawson did as well as could be expected with the WR talent he had on this team. Josh Moore caught 4 passes for 28 yards since the NCSU game. It's really tough to argue Dawson made a mistake not having him on the field for the final plays of the season.
I agree with that, we probably should have went 4 WRs at the end but we have rarely done it all year, like for instance who would be our other slot wr? Do we even know what upshaw is yet?

Moore isn’t a slot so he wouldn’t have been in, probably should have tried marion and put moore outside

But these are probably the very small things that we notice now because we lost. We ran 11p all year so just going to 4 wrs at the end of the natty sounds easy but we don’t know if anyone else is even ready for that.

It appears Beck was trying to throw over the DB but he didn’t put enough touch on it. That window was extremely tight
They rotated from quarters to Tampa pre-snap to post-snap. They have done this all year and based on how far back the LB travelled, its more of a prevent call than anything else.

I hate it so much man. Their best defender is in a full sprint and willing to give up whatever to CJ cause he realized the conflict they were put in. The play worked. The QB.. well. Whatever man

The Good
Decent play design by Dawson. Had at least 2 guys open and gets us to within 20 yards of the end zone.

The Bad
Becks decision to go to Marion. Of all the choices he made the worst one

The Ugly
Becks throw. even with that bad read he still has a chance to win but puts the ball in the wrong place and without the zip to get it there.

That elite defense that couldn’t get a stop every time Dawson got us within three?
unfortunately, they found the week spot and went at it every time. IDK why Hetherman or the cb coach didn't switch up the converage to help O'Connor. Some of those throws were not good, either. Not even close to the kind of throws Mendoza made against Oregon or B ama. We were just not in a position to stop them

Dawson ran a go-route/streak on a side with a lone WR without designing anything underneath when the defense was playing cover two. Should Beck have thrown the ball? Of course not but the play call was absolutely horrendous.
marion said after he didn't even know Beck threw the ball....

We aren’t firing him but man IU was a much better prepared team coming into the game. Glad we were able to turn it around.

Dawson does us no favors, and Beck gave up our 6th ring. No way in helllll should he have thrown that floater into double coverage. No way in helllll should Bauman be out there on passing downs. At least Brown can catch, block and keep the LBs honest. No way in hellllll should we be running inside of Cici. No way in helllll should JoJo and Pringle not get more PT when we're in attack mode.

I don't even think the play call is ****** if the qb just takes the dig that is open to keep the sticks moving. Simple. you don't need to win the game in 1 pass.
I’ve said that about Beck multiple times this season. He gets way too impatient at times and fires the ball before a play fully develops. This is why he missed Mali in the first drive of the Ole Miss game. Sometimes, you have to trust your OL and let plays develop. But, it happens. Sucks, because you have to know the situation we were in. 1st and 10 +41 yard line with almost a minute left. No need for that deep ball…This one hurts.

I remember last year, I just happened to come across some foolish Miami You Tuber saying, he wanted Mario fired after the Iowa State loss. Repeated it, sternly. Not unlike a drunk GameDay post on this site full of emotions after the loss, but a day or 2 after. I knew, I was never watching that idiot, again. Hopefully, people stopped watching them and they don't have a channel anymore. I don't know if we were tipping plays, but it certainly appeared they knew what we were doing and what holes we were running in. I find it almost impossible to do what they were doing the 1st half, but we were barely on the field. I need to watch the tape. Their D is good. It isn't near that good.

Don't fire Dawson.

1 Need a legit TE

2 Must find an outside WR able to make plays. Eddie Royal was saying it all night. Need a wr able to win. That dude might be on the team now in Josh Moore. Maybe the 2 portal additions

3 start games with more aggression in the passing game

4 develop a little more variety in the run game

5 Let Mensah cook

We sat in the canes end zone and whenever Mali was in the slot, which is almost always they rarely matched up a corner. Instead of running off the cb on that side with Marion then letting Mali get to the flat and working away from the LB they had him crossing right into the middle of the field into coverage. He could have went for over 200 with how they were trying to cover him. Beck missed him quite a few times. Why in the **** do we have Bauman on the field that last drive when he is absolutely no threat whatsoever. No Jojo or Moore? I didnt understand that at all

Bauman’s missed block on blocked punt cost us the season.
