So, last month, one fed up Miami fan decided to start a crowdfunding campaign, with the tentative goal being to raise enough money to fly a “Fire Al Golden” banner during the Hurricanes’ November game against FSU. Well, he certainly raised enough money to do it, and either called an audible, or got beat to the punch, because an anti-Golden banner was on display during Miami’s October 11th home game against Cincinnatti. The #westendzone took responsibility for the banner, but it is not currently known whether or not Danny Vazquez, the creator of the original #FireAlGolden gofundme, is a part of that group.
In any case, Vazquez has created a movement, and Canes fans are now banning together, to make sure that their disdain for Golden follows the team on the road. Adam Ruge created a new gofundme on October 16th, raising money to fly another banner over Virginia Tech’s stadium in Blacksburg, where Miami plays this Thursday.
Four days in, all of the money needed has been raised, and once again, Al Golden should avoid looking at the sky, unless he wants a constant reminder about how fans at The U feel about him.
This is pretty unreal. I appreciate the passion from Miami’s fans, but wow. Al, it’s probably a good idea at this point to take your orange tie and go home. People are spending hard earned money, and plenty of time, to tell you that you suck. On second thought though, that’s pretty flattering. I guess they wouldn’t hate you this much unless you mattered.
So, maybe stay at Miami as long as you can, and see what lengths the team’s fans will go to. It could be fun. Who knows, maybe they’ll get the Hurricanes’ home stadium renamed Fire Al Golden Stadium. Then you can leave, and still haunt them for years to come.
