Finally Admit Lanning > Mario

Didn’t see this reply, so my apologies in advance for the late response.

The litmus test is having ur program in contention every single yr. The litmus test is being in position to compete for Nat’l Titles.

Bama’s standards under Saban was winning a title every yr? Y? B/c they were winning at an absurd rate. Not winning a title was considered a failed season even if they played for one or won a NY6 bowl. From the outside, most would consider that a very successful season, but when u’re winning at a God-like level, yeah I get it.

The reason y some fans, myself included, consider this season a failure b/c

1. No one knew how easy this schedule would be; again, as I pointed out this is the 3rd easiest schedule we’ve had since joining the ACC

2. No one knew Ward would be a Heisman contending QB

3. This is going to staff change #3 in 4 yrs under Mario, when Mario allegedly thoroughly vetted these hires.

We had the yellow brick road laid out for us to make it to the ACCCG & fumbled the rock at the 1 yrd line. U couple that w/ a glimpse into the future of life w/o Cam in 2025 courtesy of the Pop Tart Bowl, a disastrous end to our 2025 recruiting class, & hoping & begging to land QBs that r presently not available either by staying put or declaring for the draft (Cam declaration was a video in a locker room of the bootleg variety, while these others were more official), & brethren u have the uproar that u’re seeing.
Hmmm, how ya feeling now?

I was thinking this when I was looking at his 4 year record:
  • 5-7
  • 7-6
  • 10-3
  • 5-0*
We were in a bad state when he arrived. This year's team would murder that team.
So many nuclear takes on this board about Mario because of '23 season. The worst thing that could happen in football did happen, but that season went to **** because our QB got the yips and threw the ball to the other team.

Lanning is the most overhyped coach in the sport. He hasn't built anything. Yes, he's maintained the program but that's it. Mario had to rebuild Oregon when he got their. People forget how bad Helfrich (I think that was his name) was.
Technically he took over for Willie Taggart… but was only there for a year..

Crazy what Helfrich did to that program in 4 years seeing that he was an internal hire.

Bruh these dudes out here beating their chest like Mario got 3 championships and has never lost a game he was the favorite. They got it
And how many of those has Lanning won? I think this is the point guy got there at the perfect NIL time and as this board likes to say about Mario is doing less with more. Now look we are 5 games in my take here could age poorly as well but Lanning isn't a world beater of a coach where on Canes board we talk him up more than the guy who is here working his tail off to make us relevant again.

Dan Lanning and Mario are underachievers. The latter some how gets ppl uptight around here when said.

Why would he feel any different? What have we accomplished since he stated those facts?

The entire point of the thread was how much better Lanning was than Mario and he ain’t. As of right now, and only time will tell in the long-term, but right now, at best, it’s a push. It can’t be argued that in terms of resources and money, Miami is doing pretty well, but they’re not in the same stratosphere as Oregon.
