Norton should've come back, anchored one of the best defensive units in CFB, been an All-Conference selection and then be taken in the first 2-4 rounds of next years draft.

Cost himself A LOT of $$

Hey, we had more wins than player drafted! We finally overachieved last season. We are still not developing players like the old days, but our kids did really good this season.

Eh. There were 3 pure nose tackles or 1T types drafted in the first four rounds. BJ Hill, Derrick Nnadi, and Deadrin Senat. I dont think Norton could have ever gotten to that level of collegiate play, tbh.

It was so easy for so many of us to see that McIntosh and Norton were making colossal blunders. Unfortunately, people get caught in their bubbles and don’t listen.

Note to UM players: Not everyone who tells you something you don’t want to hear is a hater trying to rain on your parade.

Sadly, UM players just keep repeating the same mistakes every year instead of simply listening to the people who know better.

4th round signing bonus is around $500K . 7th round is like $75K

As far as salaries go the drop off from one round to the other is in the millions.

Our two DT did not make wise decisions. They cant blame anyone but themselves. They heard arguments from both sides and made their choice.

Norton was never much of anything. A year ago there were posters here claiming he was a first round pick. That was double nutso because it ignored Norton's lack of special ability and also ignored the way the league is trending. As you indicate, that type of defensive tackle has fallen out of favor. The league no longer prioritizes linebackers who are run stuffers or defensive tackles who are pluggers. It is a 65% pass league so now the upfield tackles and nickel/dime defensive backs are more coveted, along with smaller linebackers who can cover like the Ohio State kid the Dolphins drafted in the third round.

The Dolphins are one of the few teams that has maintained a base 4-3 for a high percentage of plays, unlike the rest of the league which now fields at least 5 defensive backs more often than not, and a team like New England which employs 6 defensive backs a significant percentage of the time. I think the way the local pro team plays has thrown off the perspective here on the league as a whole.

Norton should have returned but he was not going to be drafted high next year, no matter how he played. As Todd McShay described well yesterday, Norton is a backup nose tackle type.

When the Canes finally have an elite defensive tackle again, we'll know it and he'll be a first rounder in any draft, not a Happy Adjuster special. McIntosh and Norton benefitted from comparison to recent Canes at the position. It threw off how they compare to the best players nationwide.
