X's and O's FILM STUDY: Just How Good Can Miami's OL Be In 2026?

I wanted to breakdown film from the FAMU game but that would be pointless, so i went back to the Stanford game and picked out 15 plays to really dive into the Good & Bad from this OL's performance. Enjoy Y'all!

Thank you. Your breakdowns are very much appreciated

Better linebackers and DTs are going to blow up our run game if we don't get the communication fixed.
Love the 3rd party reviews because they can speak freely and comfortably with no issues from parents, hecht, being called mope by sunshine pumpers, etc..

At the end, Cantwell is not ready but is being put in to learn on job.. SJ is spazzing on reps, we seem a true P4 starter short on inside who knows what to do and is a vet.. Too many guys on inside learning on the job..

We will see how much it gets cleaned up, under a month til road test in death valley.. If Im Dabo I blitz the middle all night long and see who is ready for primetime.

I was told McCoy sucks...
Dunno if I'm included in this group (definitely didn't say he sucked; only speculated if he'd be better off for us remaining at LG), but I'd pause on a conclusion until he faces a couple more [legit] EDGE rushers.

So far, I'm happy to raise my hand and admit he looks cleaner outside than he did last year inside - where no one can deny he had legit pass pro issues. Seems weird that he'd be better outside in pass pro than at LG, but I concede there are valid reasons (he's got long arms and good feet and maybe just needs the space).

My position on him for now remains: let's see how he performs first against Wake (1 good Edge, another decent one) and then against Clemson (one + edge, another ok one). But, even if Mccoy slips (he did have an awful rep in Stanford against quickness), if Cantwell cannot solidify the RT position, then Mccoy's out there regardless.

I had hoped Cantwell was cleaner earlier, could play RT, and Mccoy could play LG where he's logged countless snaps. Then the young guys could rotate around RG. So far, doesn't look great for that plan. We'll see what the next 3 games show.

Great video, thank you.

Is "bend" something that can really be improved? Or is that like a genetic thing. Genetic or technique?

For example, speed is genetic. Route running is technique.

Where does Bend fall under.

there's plenty Dawson can do to mitigate the weakness, and i expect him to do so, while at the same time burning some of these MFs for taking the risk of blitzing or clogging the A gap.

Landon, thanks for this, love your content. That being said our guard play is a real concern, Cantwell and SJ are real liabilities at that position, can't believe we don't have 2 guys we can rely on.

Great breakdown. I feel good about Buchanan holding down one of the guard spots. I just really hope someone emerges for the other spot. SJ and Cantwell both look worse than I believe most expected.

He’s 6 foot eight, so it’s never gonna be great because of his height, but it’s a technique and habit thing. Up in Missouri he didn’t need to do it to dominate, but he needs to do it here, even at tackle. But he really needs to do it if he’s gonna be filling in at the guard position this year because guys are getting underneath him and we can’t have that. So you just gotta rep it and rep it and rep it until it becomes the habit.

Yup, it's pretty much muscle memory. Obviously harder for a tall guy, but it can be worked on.

Assuming he ends up at OT, this will still benefit him.
