Fielding punts at the 3-yard line

Hopefully just a week 1 jitter issue. I saw another example of this in (I think?) the Utah-Florida game.
I saw about a million examples of this over the weekend. Special teams in college is just really really really really bad.

Countless examples of muffed punts, horrible fair catch decisions, horrible decisions on kickoffs resulting in 1st & 10 from your 15, botched snaps, god awful punts, etc, etc, etc, etc.

Considering where special teams at Miami was in the pre-Borregales/Hedley era...I'm not mad.

What in the **** ever happened to standing with your heels on the 10 yard line and allowing the ball to sail into the end zone?

tbh?

Coaching (or lack thereof)

We had a recent punt returner (can't recall who) try to "make a play" by attempting to scoop and return a bouncing ball that a 10-year-old in Pop Warner would've been wise enough to back away from. Thing ended up a mess just like you'd anticipate

That **** is embarrassing

He immediately realized it.. & proceeded to sell the 15 yard penalty. Looked like Lebron flopping. I’m confident it won’t happen again.

It was boneheaded but look at the bright side... at least we're not LSU and fumbling.

Yep as soon as the opposing player was stupid enough to touch him he went down. He was not hit hard enough to cause him to fall but he knew there was a shot it would get called.

I don't think that because of fair catches. It was because he wasn't electric, we needed a home run threat back there.
We tried a number of more electric players while Berrios was here but the one thing he did that the more electric guys seemed to forget was make sure he secured the ball. That is why they kept sending him out there to do it.

Who else would you have put back there?
The comment was about Berrios or more exactly, others commenting on Berrios. Berrios is no longer an option. As far as this upcoming game, it has to be Restrepo. Just don't repeat fielding a punt inside the 10.

After A&M, there's Bethune, Temple and Ga Tech. There should be time to experiment to see if someone emerges (like Joseph or Washington).

Maybe he saw the PF call Rok! Maybe he knew he head a free play Rok. Like a an offsides shot down the field Rok! Did you every think of that ROK!

He also ended up with a 15+ yds/ret average good enough for 5th in the country his senior year. So he wasn't exactly chopped liver in making things happen.

Restrepo did this in the 2nd quarter but we were bailed out by a personal foul call.

I noticed that in a number of different games the first weekend. Maybe opening game (over)eagerness by the players?
