Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove 3-star DT Quentez Johnson saw no need to wait.
No, he never visited Miami.
But he developed a great rapport with Cane coaches and knew it was where he wanted to play college ball.
So today he made it official and committed.
"I called coaches, told them I wanted to commit and coach (Al) Golden, he was like `Yes!' He was fired up," Johnson said. "I just felt it today, wanted to do it now."
Johnson adds that "I just felt it in my heart, that was the place for me. The coaches, they recruited me hard."
Is it strange committing without ever visiting?
"Not really," he said. "It's Miami."
Johnson lists 25 offers and says UM was always ahead in his mind.
He says he's a solid commitment.
"It's a done deal," he said.
Johnson says he'll visit Miami this summer. And he sees great things ahead for the program.
"I think I can go in and play right away," Johnson said. "We're going to be good. I'm going to help recruit, we're going to be real good, hopefully get an ACC championship and a national championship."
Last season Johnson finished with 65 tackles, 12 for losses, with three sacks.
