Ferman is hinting that Highsmith deal is on the way

Basketball matters because it can be a huge profit center. It's a comparatively cheap sport to run and TV revenues are enormous if you are a tournament team year after year.

But we don't disagree one iota that football is king.

1. Many of our fans only care about our football program.

2. Some of these fans are half-bloods. They support one program in football and another in basketball. I love when they provide their reasoning for this decision.

3. Basketball makes a lot of money, nothing close to football but we make a lot of money.

All of this.

There is a misconception on CIS about how the athletic dept is run. Blake is the CEO, focused heavily on fundraising, which he has excelled at and why the BOT does not want to fire him.

The COO, and real AD, is Jennifer Strawley. She is the one actually running the program day to day. The problem with those two is that neither one has a clue about sports and zero connections in the football world. Blake fundraises, Strawley is a SJW who was a diversity hire by Shalala.

So *if* the Highsmith story is true, it would be crucial to have him at a minimum be above Strawley and preferably Blake too.

Last but not least, while I would love Alonzo at the U, only a poorly run organization hires extra executives because their current executives arent good enough.

There is a good case to be made that Blake has mishandled basketball as well, other than the Coach L hire.

Blake is responsible for at least two, perhaps more of the great fiascos in UM history: the Al Golden Extension and the Diaz National Coaching Search. If a working majority of the Board has decided to create a Director of Football Operations that bypasses Blake and answers directly to the BOT, that would make some sense. Football CAN BE a huge nationwide moneymaker for the University IN THE RIGHT HANDS. That’s not what’s happening now.

Despite himself, Ferman may have picked up some of these goings on.

There is no bigger critic of Blake "I needed 5 years to graduate from Minnesota State Mankato" James. But...

1. Al Golden was extended in November, 2011. It was Eichorst who was the AD at this time.

2. Both the hiring and extending of Richt were atrocious, illogical and unnecessary decisions.

3. Here are some other "special" moments:

- It wasn't Blake who eventually fired Al.
- Paying $4 Million for the rights to promote your DC from a failed regime.
- Having zero clue that your football HC (Richt) and his unhappiness.
- Allowing Nepotism.

So what if this is a trial balloon by some power players on the Board to cut Strawley and Blake out of football altogether without having to fire them. The hiring of Highsmith with complete autonomy would play VERY well politically in Miami.

how does this work? AD of football only? And then he reports to the chief AD? Not for nothing but that’s a downgrade for alonzo

My guess is that he would only take it if he reported to Frenk with a dotted line to the BOT. At least, that is what I would want if I were him.

I stand corrected. I thought it was Blake who suggested the extension to Donna.

Ok I get that and maybe coach L is passed it and time to retire but atleast coach L has an excuse with he BS adidas thing that unfairly Fvcked our recruiting even though we didn’t do anything wrong abd was clearly guilty by association with adidas. Smh plus L has proven track record as the biggest winner this basketball program has ever had. Manure and flake have none of those things.

That wasn't him. He had NOTHING to do with that hire.

Coach was hired in April, 2011. It was Eichorst, who had no idea who Coach was, that was the AD.

AH is a respected NFL scout with NFL connections. I'm absolutely sure he could put together a better staff than what we have now. HIGHSMITH wouldn't stand for hiring coaches that are learning on the job! I would take him over our current group of clowns any **** day. Plus, it would show the school is actually committed to the program. I love the idea. I'm praying this isnt BS. We lost to Duke, FIU, UF, and barely beat CMU. And all our coaches job are safe! I have a hard time believing a guy like ZO would stand for that.

Pressure makes diamonds or bust pipes. I firmly believe Manny would feel the pressure needed to adjust his approach alot quicker if he had to answer to someone with as much football knowledge, experience, and connections as ZO. Our staff would be forced to do more than post GIFs

Well, Highsmith wouldn’t work in Miami unless it was written into his contract that he answered directly to Frenk and the Board. I don’t think he wants to deal with that snake pit at the Hecht.

Would be incredible if Blake and especially Strawley are that untouchable. The results on the field speak for themselves, we are atrocious and make terrible decisions unique to only Miami compared to the rest of the nation.

Also, while in this hypothetical you cut Strawley and Blake out of the equation regarding football, I'd imagine one possible problem arising would be their influence over people in the Administration. Which we know by the Manny hiring is a factor and could create factions that make AH's job more difficult as he would never truly have complete autonomy.

You can’t have an AD picking assistants, how will that look to players knowing the HC has zero power?

Manny still hasn’t made changes which is frightening

I’d be surprised if Coley isn’t fired today. Keep fingers crossed either Muschamp or Enos is dumb enough to hire Enos away from us.

I mean to do it right it would effectively be a demotion for Blake so I don’t see it happening. Every major sport is doing bad, not just football.

The only thing that could work imo is if you fire Strawley and replace her with AH and other sports specific COOs. But again, if they’re given true atonomy, then Blake is a glorified fundraiser and AD in name only.
