Ferman is hinting that Highsmith deal is on the way

Could be the higher ups that wanted Mario are so ****ed off seeing Mario win, while we are a clown show, that they have a little more leverage than they had previously. The pro-Diaz crowd, Blake included, is quite possibly being told to get the **** out of the way. Interesting times.

My post has nothing to do with whether or not AH would be good at this position. So under this setup, Blake would be President of athletics and AH would be GM of football. AH would be in charge of football and only football.

Two Questions:

1. Is there another school that has actual success using this setup? Please state the school(s).

2. Who would be in charge of basketball or other sports?
Honestly my friend, who cares about about basketball and other sports, they can fend for themselves. There’s only one sport that matters at UM and one sport that actually built UM! And that sport is in dire need of some love and attention from someone who knows and actually gives a Fvck about it. If AH can bring that then I’m all for it be damned what anyone else thinks, especially Flake and Manure.

You didn't answer either question.

Sounds like a good idea till you realize this is Miami and we're destined to fvck this up.

Can imagine a scenario where Highsmith has zero autonomy, is only there to effectively give suggestions to Flake, which Flake will promptly ignore as he A. hates confronting his HCs and B. only listens to the BOT. And when it comes time to say the hiring process... BOT's word > AH's word every day of the week. This **** will flame out in under 2 years.

Get me a real AD that is allowed to act unilaterally and responds to no one.

he’a not running the browns and he’s been an up and coming name since he was in Green Bay. I also think the admin does care about the Football program and they may be realizing they need help.
Wait wait wait. Isn’t he like second in the chain of command as VP of player personnel? So you mean as the up & comer he is, someone who will be on short lists for next GM openings, and as someone who reports to probably only the owner and GM has nothing to do with Cleveland’s current mess including the coach? Is that what youre insinuating?

How many other schools have implemented a similar setup (to the one suggested) and have had actual success in football?
Agreed.

You're accomplishing nothing by having that many "decision makers". Inevitably the ones truly in power will always make the key decisions and the others will realize they're just there for show. Blake accepted that a long time ago, Highsmith wouldn't, and ultimately nothing will change.

Basketball matters because it can be a huge profit center. It's a comparatively cheap sport to run and TV revenues are enormous if you are a tournament team year after year.

But we don't disagree one iota that football is king.

I think many schools have unofficial folks working in that capacity who the AD can consult with regards to what is occurring with the fb program and why when things are not going smoothly...they also help them identify good head coaches as well as analyze the current assistant coaches on staff...but all under unofficial channels.

That is definitely part of it. I was more curious if there is another program that had actual success with such a relationship.

A castrated AD has no control of a advisor to the football program. Said advisor runs the program and has autonomy.

I am not talking about employees that help one specific sport or another.

Regardless of whether this happens or not, essentially you have a President (Blake) who has no control of a Manager (AH). Said Manager has total control of their department (football). I've never heard of such a thing. The way this seems is that AH would 100% run the program and be in charge.

I am asking, is there any program that has a similar setup and has that program had actual success?

I am not sure what % of football revenue makes up our total revenue from athletics but this seems insanely illogical for numerous reasons.

Blake is responsible for at least two, perhaps more of the great fiascos in UM history: the Al Golden Extension and the Diaz National Coaching Search. If a working majority of the Board has decided to create a Director of Football Operations that bypasses Blake and answers directly to the BOT, that would make some sense. Football CAN BE a huge nationwide moneymaker for the University IN THE RIGHT HANDS. That’s not what’s happening now.

Despite himself, Ferman may have picked up some of these goings on.
