Ferman is hinting that Highsmith deal is on the way

If UM is serioous about football, bringing in lonzo would be the first sign that they are. This administration has been ignoring the legends for far to long. When a UM administration allows for the reduction of how many former players can be on the sidelines for games, that tells you it has always been a lack of respect and disconnect, but im sure somebody is waking up, when your trophy case is starting to look like a museum, coach highsmith will weed out the double agents and start preaching football excellence. All these college football teams are just carbon copies now, the problem with us is, we got the players, we just need real leadership again football wise.

If this keeps all the ****sticks within the administration who don't care about Football away from the Football program, I'll take it...

They just need to move out the way & let someone who knows & cares about Football make the decisions, instead of just staying status quo all the time & accepting mediocrity.

Highsmith, in this particular capacity, would be 100x better than any of those incompetent fuggs at the Hecht. He's forgotten more than they've ever learned. This would be fantastic for us - IF - they allow him to operate as "that dude..."

Ferman referenced it on his weekly podcast Tuesday as something that is being discussed with the administration and that Highsmith is Interested as a football only GM role. He felt it had a “reasonable” chance of furition. Since I don’t have a subscription to his site I’m unsure if Ferman elaborated further later.
That would be great as long as James basically doesn't get involved with personnel decisions or contract negotiations (he absolutely sucks at both) and sticks to raising money and the other responsibilities an AD has.

My only problem with this is his salary would probably reduce what would be paid to the coaches

You all are so emotional and in your feelings you will fall for anything. If you truly believe this is going to happen I have some property to sell you

Also what has AH done that warrants this position. Last time I checked CLEVELAND is a failure of a football organization and the model of dysfunction.

I love AH but calling him Ozzie newsome like is a ******* joke. Let’s let AH actually be a GM or something before you go and compare him to arguably the best GM of our generation

Creating a role specific to football makes a ton of sense. It’s basically removing James without having to fire him.

how does this work? AD of football only? And then he reports to the chief AD? Not for nothing but that’s a downgrade for alonzo

Man I'd be ecstatic if they gave Zo complete control of all football operations, including hiring, firing, scheduling and most importantly a competitive budget to work with that has some flexibility in it .

Let a real football person run the football side and leave the rest to whoever the **** they want. But imo the only way it works is if he is a separate entity. No connection to the AD, he should only answer to selected members of the BOT.

The optics of this move look good but the only way it truly works is by taking power from both James and Manny. Manny can’t have the end all decision on staff, personnel, scheme, etc and Blake can’t have the power to be the only person involved in a coaching search or other relevant decision related to football.

Seems great on the surface but good luck luring a legit HC here in the future that can’t make his own decisions and have full control of his program. After Blake’s many **** ups im sure he realizes what hes done and is willing to let someone else take some heat. But Manny didn’t sign up to have a GM over him (he needs it but he’s not gonna be happy about it) and no other legit HC is going to want that either.

he’a not running the browns and he’s been an up and coming name since he was in Green Bay. I also think the admin does care about the Football program and they may be realizing they need help.

I don’t think AH will not let coaches make decisions but I do think it’s more of a way to keep coaches accountable and have someone who knows what they are doing (hiring head coaches and other football operations)

Sorry, but I’ll believe this when I see it. I think it would be a smart move and a signal that the UM administration actually gives a **** about football and how it’s run. And Gary ‘hinting’ at it doesn’t inspire much confidence. So, I’ll wait.
