Felipe Franks / UF bowl game

I watched their bowl game again, and knowing all of the guys they lost, it blows my mind how much hype UF is getting.

Franks is a sneaky runner that could hurt us if we don’t account for him

Perrine is a very nice back that is really good catching the ball. He caught about 5 swing and screen passes in the game.

Reality:

It seemed like over half their passing plays were some sort of screen or slant. Our DBs will need to be ready to tackle. Any sort of intermediate to deep developing routes and Franks looked very uncomfortable with bad throwing mechanics.

Although he is at risk to run, Franks is awful in the red zone with very poor vision. This is the overall trend with him as a passer, one read and throw, anything more and the wheels fall off for him.

I wasn’t overly impressed with UFs corners. More often than not, they were beaten by jump ball and back shoulder type throws, below average ability to find the ball. I expect our WRs and TEs to have a good showing.

I’ll give Mullen credit in putting together a solid game plan around Franks and his limited ability. With our speed and strength in the front 7 [Im calling for a Romeo Finley and our Bandy pick 6], I fully expect that we will stop what they are trying to do on Offense and force Franks to beat us with downfield passing... which he will fail miserably at.

Can’t wait for the season to start and go 1-0.

Only guy that scares me and is a game changer is Toney

I love my canes, I’m in wait and see mode. I’m hurt and gun shy after last season. I’m not buying Franks can’t get better and Mullins is an average coach. I want a win badly though!!!

Amazing, that you would use what they
UF's media hype is primarily because of Mullen.
As opposed to Miami's hype due to Diaz ? Regardless of what you'd like to believe Florida has the advantage at the Qb position in this one.

I've never seen Felipe throw the long ball consistently.

Play short, apply consistent pressure and make him throw to beat you.

I'd like to see us in 4-4 occassionally this game. Our DBs are good enough to stay on an island.

Actually would be similar to stopping Tim Tebow in '08 which Ole Miss capitalized in using to beat them.

I expect him to run the ball 12-15 times during our game. Lot of draws from the shotgun. Seriously though, he sucks. Put heat on him, and it's over.

We get it, you're a gator. I'm not seeing the Miami "hype" you're mentioning though. They're not starting the season ranked. The ACC media picked them to finish behind Virginia in the Coastal. The national media has pretty much ignored Miami outside of the Tate Martell/transfer portal hype a few months back. If I were a gator, I'd be seriously concerned that my preseason top 10 team is only a 7 point favorite against an unranked opponent with a first time head coach.

As they should ... but would think their smarter fans (oxymoron, I know) would realize that Richt stepping down and Diaz taking over was addition by subtraction—as is Malik Rosier yielding to one of three guys that's been putting in the work at quarterback, ready to take over.

The culture change, the Transfer Portal upgrades, the new S&C upgrades, a real offensive coordinator, etc.—Miami was held back by Richt last season.

Diaz should be able to get this thing looking more like the best of 2017 than the worst of 2018. How fast that plays out, we'll see ... but Wisconsin's beat-down of Miami in New York was one of the best things to happen to this program in a long time.
How the mighty have fallen. One of the other 'best things to happen' games in the last decade was Clemson ending Golden.

Man we really need to win consistently - it's been way too long.

It really wouldn't make sense to run that same game-plan against our defense front 7. However I do think UF is going to have to test the middle of our DL right away and see where we stand. If we prove to be strong i feel its going to be a very long day for the UF offense.

All this game boils down to (as with most of our games this season) is going to be oline and QB play. Thats it.

And the hype of Mullen is based on absolutely nothing. Miss St was the 4th or 5th best team in the SECW before he got there and the 4th or 5th place team every year he was there besides one. And that team was vastly overrated. Sure, he recruited about ten spots higher than his predecessors, but the results on the field were never much better than where they should have been.

He doesn't suck. He's the very definition of average.
You're wrong, Mullen raised Miss.St. to some of it's highest heights. We can not be lackadaisical for this game. We must plan for the worse, and trust in or processs.

I see what you're saying, but we are coming from our saturated view.

Their fans aren't any different than most fans, Most of their fans base it on last year and they will rationalize-look and see this Miami Team:

1) With a first year (never been a) head coach
2) That's Installing a new offense
3) Without a named QB yet, from a QB stable with a single digit starts total
4) With an average at best O-line.
5) With weaker special teams
5) And that they don't have to open against a team from the almighty SEC

Our fans see and look for the same things to hang their hat on, like a lot did about LSU last year (Dumpster Fire, transfers, etc) and the this year the Gators suspensions.

This is a tough first game against a QB whose had 21 starts and an SEC front 7. But if we win, it establishes the TNM with authority.

Bullsh*t. Under Jackie Sherrill, Miss St finished 3rd or better in the SECW four times between '92 and '99. He even took them to the SEC championship game in '98.

Mullen never took Miss St to the SEC championship game and he finished 4th or worse in the SECW every year besides '14.

Yes, Miss St was pretty bad when Mullen got there because Croom was a dumpster fire, and they got better under Mullen...but this idea that he did something unprecedented is a fantasy.

I agree Franks could have a big day running the ball against us. He's a load to bring down.

It’s like my old coach used to say “That man ain’t running with his shoulders, Grab his legs and he’s falling down”.

I want to see our LBs and Safeties ring his bell every time he does decide to run.
It seems like every time he ran against Michigan no one laid a good lick on him.
In a State Rivalry like this we have to set the tone early and make him think twice about running.

Between injuries and guys sitting out for the NFL draft, Michigan has quite a few backups in on D.

I agree though, Finley, Amari and Gurvan should have some chances to make Felipe **** blood

said it before, the screen is their go to on money downs and when they are not running the ball well, you take it away from Franks and he will implode

Poured myself some Gin last night and Watched their entire season last night (condensed 20 minute games)

Defense was very good, put the offense in good field position a lot. I know they lost some dudes but I’m more concerned with how our offense fares vs their D then the other way around.

Offense is boring, they run the same **** over and over again hoping the defense makes a mistake (missed tackle, busted play, etc) Similar to the way Gtech does (not the same offense) they focus on controlling the pace and can lull the defense to sleep with the repetition. If the defense falls asleep they’ll hit a big play, if not they’ll try and eat underneath with 4-5 yd low risk passes and runs.

Franks is not comfortable throwing downfield and is even worse when he feels pressure. We’re probably gonna blitz the fck out of him and try to get him to make a mistake. Corners are gonna need to step up and tackle, I’m talking to Ivey here, we know Bandy can tackle his a$$ off. Romeo Finley is also gonna be an intricate part of blowing their **** up.

All in all if we can play defense the way we’re capable of and Enos can earn his paycheck we should leave Orlando with a dub. If we get gashed Early and are forced to play from behind all night it’s gonna be more difficult. Hoping we start fast
