Felipe Franks / UF bowl game

We are laughing at Franks with same rationale that they are laughing at our team ....based on last year's performance.

Both teams will have improved in the off season. Mullen is no novice. He will have them ready.
Same with Enos and Manny... we will be a different team this season compared to last..

35-3 against a mediocre Wisky team (lost by 4 scores to Minnesota, lost to BYU at home, OT with Purdue, etc) I get that it's the off-season, we have a new staff, reason for optimism on offense.. but people really should say less

Game was still 14-3 at half despite FOUR first half turnovers. This game, like our best performance of the season, should just be thrown out. Think it’s safe to say we were something in the middle.

Let them think this is who we are.

Have you seen Franks numbers against the blitz? He had the worst completion percentage (25.3%) in the power 5. He was 53rd (of 64) in passer rating and 52nd in QBR. And they're starting 4 new offensive linemen. Blitz his *** until they prove they can stop it.

Right I did forget about that statistic.
I certainly wouldn't blitz on run downs (i.e., 1st and 10 or 3rd and 3 and under).

If they blitz in pass situations you're 100% right. Agreed.

Im going to get killed for this... But how is it that our fans can see how we will be a completely different team then our last bowl game/season, and not think that cousin Eddy will change things up based on their weaknesses and strengths? Their Oline last year from the stuff i watched was really good, which obviously effects the plays they run ect. The Gaytor would have to be really stupid to run the same stuff as last year considering the oline replacements, and the strengths of our Dline and Lbs... I'm not a coach by any means but i would imagine Mullet has changed some packages, and is game planing the same way Enos and Manny are.

You bring up a fair point.

Questions I would ask before answering would be:

- Did their QB improve drastically in intermediate and deep throws?
- The offensive system didn't ask the OL to block for a significant time, at least on pass sets, would then a new OL be able to then accomplish this?

It seems as though Mullen's system is all about quick plays and, to be honest, doesn't ask a lot from the OL. Which brings me to the thought that, this year the offense at least won't be drastically different, but some new plays will occur I'm sure.

He also has an occasional case of fumble-itis. He had a particularly bizarre one against Vanderbilt.

If we hit him, he will fold. Trust me.
There's only one way to be certain if your theory is correct. Best keep hammering him. It's the only way we'll find out.

THIS IS THE ONLY GAME FILM THEY SHOULD BE WATCHING....

anyone who thinks that Florida will be a walk in the park is delirious. It will similar to LSU, except with hopefully better coaching and offensive and ST performance from UM. Don´t get me wrong, we could have won that game and definitely can win this game, but it will be challenge and we will have to play our A game. Go Canes.

It is different though, they are basing our last year results on having Malik and a stagnant offense that was based on a clap snap count, Our entire offensive playbook is different and QB. Franks is the same guy. Should he improve during an offseason? Yes. But he is not going to be Tom brady with Cam newtons legs out there.

Now where they can call us out (as we would do to them) Is having little (maybe zero?) experience at QB, new offensive system for our guys to pick up, and first time head coach.

Fully expecting multiple receiver trick play passes and reverses early on
Certainly possible. But I expect Mullen to run early and often until we prove we can stop it. Mullen literally called drives last year where Franks did not attempt a single pass. I think UF comes out with a 3:1 run to pass ratio or thereabouts.

They'll be running the same offense that Mullet's been running since he worked under Urban Meyer. Right now, it is what it is. It's 100% predicated on establishing the running game with the QB and running backs and everything else works off of that. I'm sure he's got some kind of game plan to counter Miami's defense (it's the only Miami film they can use because the offense is something nobody has seen at all yet) but its' not like he's going to make some monumental shift and break out an air raid offense in week 0. Like Tebow and Nick Fitzgerald, Franks is better suited as a power runner than passer. They will not hesitate to run the QB into the teeth of the defense because Urban Meyer's offense is completely based around it. They will look to wear out Miami's front with a consistent power attack and will only look to throw the ball as a change of pace move to catch the D off balance. It's imperative to get them behind the chains in down and distance because Felipe Franks throwing on 3rd and 5 or longer is exactly what Miami wants. It would also make a huge difference if the offense can come out and put up a couple of early scores. If you can get Florida to have to play from behind, you've pretty much won the game.

Even though the gaytors may be favored we might have the edge.they know our defense is a good one but they don't know what to expect from our offense.if the canes can start fast on offense and the defense can hold them or better yet dictate our style of play to them we might pull it off and win.f rankly I don't know what to expect from our offense nor am I going to expect it to lite up the scoreboard in just watch the game and let it unfold.

Noticed the other day how Mullen loves to spread his offense out wide only to run it with the defense unable to stuff the box. Also, in the UGA game he'd regularly go 5 wide for a quick pass or a QB draw. Will really test our CB depth.

I watched their bowl game again, and knowing all of the guys they lost, it blows my mind how much hype UF is getting.

Franks is a sneaky runner that could hurt us if we don’t account for him

Perrine is a very nice back that is really good catching the ball. He caught about 5 swing and screen passes in the game.

Reality:

It seemed like over half their passing plays were some sort of screen or slant. Our DBs will need to be ready to tackle. Any sort of intermediate to deep developing routes and Franks looked very uncomfortable with bad throwing mechanics.

Although he is at risk to run, Franks is awful in the red zone with very poor vision. This is the overall trend with him as a passer, one read and throw, anything more and the wheels fall off for him.

I wasn’t overly impressed with UFs corners. More often than not, they were beaten by jump ball and back shoulder type throws, below average ability to find the ball. I expect our WRs and TEs to have a good showing.

I’ll give Mullen credit in putting together a solid game plan around Franks and his limited ability. With our speed and strength in the front 7 [Im calling for a Romeo Finley and our Bandy pick 6], I fully expect that we will stop what they are trying to do on Offense and force Franks to beat us with downfield passing... which he will fail miserably at.

Can’t wait for the season to start and go 1-0.

💯
