I watched their bowl game again, and knowing all of the guys they lost, it blows my mind how much hype UF is getting.

Franks is a sneaky runner that could hurt us if we don’t account for him

Perrine is a very nice back that is really good catching the ball. He caught about 5 swing and screen passes in the game.

Reality:

It seemed like over half their passing plays were some sort of screen or slant. Our DBs will need to be ready to tackle. Any sort of intermediate to deep developing routes and Franks looked very uncomfortable with bad throwing mechanics.

Although he is at risk to run, Franks is awful in the red zone with very poor vision. This is the overall trend with him as a passer, one read and throw, anything more and the wheels fall off for him.

I wasn’t overly impressed with UFs corners. More often than not, they were beaten by jump ball and back shoulder type throws, below average ability to find the ball. I expect our WRs and TEs to have a good showing.

I’ll give Mullen credit in putting together a solid game plan around Franks and his limited ability. With our speed and strength in the front 7 [Im calling for a Romeo Finley and our Bandy pick 6], I fully expect that we will stop what they are trying to do on Offense and force Franks to beat us with downfield passing... which he will fail miserably at.

Can’t wait for the season to start and go 1-0.

Your observations are on point. Their passing game consists of three routes; slant, screen and swing with a rare crossing pattern or post. Just yesterday I watched their game vs Miss St. Franks was like 2 for 10 on 3rd down. He's uncomfortable making more than one read and wildly inaccurate throwing beyond 15 yards.

Our defense will house at least one of those slants.

UF's media hype is primarily because of Mullen.

And the hype of Mullen is based on absolutely nothing. Miss St was the 4th or 5th best team in the SECW before he got there and the 4th or 5th place team every year he was there besides one. And that team was vastly overrated. Sure, he recruited about ten spots higher than his predecessors, but the results on the field were never much better than where they should have been.

He doesn't suck. He's the very definition of average.

Partially. The rest is the fact they closed strong against sub-par, or beaten-down teams—as well as their home upset of No. 5 LSU earlier in the season.

Smacking around Idaho, a bad Florida State team and a dejected Michigan that lost to Ohio State AGAIN—badly—all helped puff up that inflated 10-3 record.

Big losses to Missouri and Georgia, as well as a big comeback needed to beat Vanderbilt. The Gators are an above-average team. Nothing more.

Miami went 10-3 in 2017—mostly puffed up by a rout of No. 3 Notre Dame—losing three down the stretch, instead of winning three, like UF. The Canes started last season No. 8—and the Gators are hovering around that to start 2019. Not a big stretch.

Hopefully Miami can pounce on an overrated Florida the same way LSU jumped all over the Canes to start last season.

I can only imagine what UF’s boards are saying about our bowl game.

As they should ... but would think their smarter fans (oxymoron, I know) would realize that Richt stepping down and Diaz taking over was addition by subtraction—as is Malik Rosier yielding to one of three guys that's been putting in the work at quarterback, ready to take over.

The culture change, the Transfer Portal upgrades, the new S&C upgrades, a real offensive coordinator, etc.—Miami was held back by Richt last season.

Diaz should be able to get this thing looking more like the best of 2017 than the worst of 2018. How fast that plays out, we'll see ... but Wisconsin's beat-down of Miami in New York was one of the best things to happen to this program in a long time.

They're being favored because they are a more experienced team going into Year 2. I believe most of their roster are juniors and seniors. It's more likely for a JR O-Lineman with limited starts to replace a starter than for a freshman to do the same which is why I don't think a lot of emphasis is being put on their OL situation, that and most believe that Mullen is a good enough coach to mask whatever problems they may have. That and Manny being a first-time HC should be the only reasons imo. Franks is average, their backs aren't all that, the receivers are decent, and their secondary outside of S is good.

Its accurate. Truth hurts.

Most on Gator boards view the matchup with Miami as an easy W over FCS opponent.

A few point to Miami v LSU with Gators running risk of playing the Canes' part in that outcome.

A few have even said to fire up the airboats (cuz they dont know nuttin about fancy flyn macheens) if Mullen drops the opener to Manolo.

What a sight that would be.

We lose and it's no big deal. They beat an unranked team in a first year, first time coach's first game. They'll just be even more overconfident the next time we meet.

We win and I guarantee they'll lose their schitt. Please, PLEASE!!! Make that happen.

After reviewing three of UF's games in 2018, the offense is almost identical to that of OSUs. I heard we just got a player form there to transfer over.

A previous poster was right, slants, swings, hooks, and the occasional post. What's interesting regarding Franks is that, if they ask him to throw an intermediate throw, you can see that his arm really isn't strong at all. There is no drive from the ball, and his mechanics turn into spaghetti.

IMO, if UM sits on the flat routes and doesn't blitz much and force them into throw anything over 15 yards, that's ball game, at least defensively.
On offense, a little harder to predict since we speculate on Enos' offense, but misdirection usually kills a team predicated on aggressiveness and blitzing, as long as that misdirection doesn't develop exceptionally long.

I agree about Franks. While I don't think he's a horrible QB, I watched a number of the UF games last season, and not once did I come away feeling impressed by him in any way. No aspect of his game stood out as being exceptional in any way.

Have you seen Franks numbers against the blitz? He had the worst completion percentage (25.3%) in the power 5. He was 53rd (of 64) in passer rating and 52nd in QBR. And they're starting 4 new offensive linemen. Blitz his *** until they prove they can stop it.
