Feldman on Diaz - top 5 coach on the rise

To me, UM isnt a place where you learn how to be a HC. Enough of the cheap hires. The post-RICHT era should start with someone who has experience and understands that coaching at UM is different.

One thing that bothers me about Manny is the assistants he has under him. Hes brought along guys without any real experience and given them positions that they might not have 'earned'. To me, it says more about the guy him than it does about them. Maybe he's just loyal but there could be other reasons. Last thing I want is a UM team with coaches that are learning on the job.

I'm hoping that post-RICHT will be someone who gets MIAMI thru and thru. There's been too many guys who just dont understand the culture down here or wont invest in the community.

Brown might leave at some point to become an OC who actually calls plays. He's too young and unproven for a HC gig. Only way I see him going from OC to HC is if he goes to a smaller school like FAU or a school in D2 or JC.

Either way, none of this is happening unless we win and win BIG. We start playing for and winning natties and our assistants are going to get poached. It's just the way things are. No one is going to change people's desire to grow professionally and make more money, and you can't blame them for that (unless your last name is Ariz haha).

GO CANES!

Carter doesnt have the best range and he isnt all that in coverage. Carter is a in the box safety.
You have to be crazy... JJohnson had instincts based off film study with Ed Reed, but Carter was that dude as a true freshman.

Carter barely played. He isnt a rangy safety. Dude is a LB in a safety body. He isn't fast and isnt good in coverage. All his best plays is him coming down hill and hitting.

I don’t want to think of the post-Richt era already. I hope we start winning big and he sticks around until he’s 100.

If he sticks around, it will be as the AD.. He will have been here 3 years come December. He won't stay more than 10 (puts him at 65). Still, that's 7 years to accomplish what he wants. Enjoy the ride.

That could just be because they didn't trust him in that roll as a true freshman...

I can't get past first name on list and I'm not subscribing.
Is the James Madison HC on list?
If not, it is a lazy list.

We'll see. For all the great things he did, and all the talk about running a "Miami style defense," flashes of UT Manny started to come out last year.

This guy could go either way at this point.

Timing is not right for Diaz to be HC at Miami assuming Feldman’s evaluation is correct. If so he will be gone in a couple of years. Richt will be here for at least five more.

Manny gets ‘Miami’ and the style of play for SoFla.

Whether or not Manny can run a whole program is another matter. I’d have to see how he manages his assistants. How he runs his side of ball. He seems highly organized. Attention to detail. Would he be a CEO-type HC? On defense, would his DC have autonomy or would Manny be hands-on like Richt is with the offense?

What offense would Manny have his OC run?

I think his assistant choices have been solid. He didn’t hire Coach Kool. There is quite a bit of inexperience on the staff but have they done a poor job? No. The defense is far better entering 2018 than 2016. Not 1994, 2001 great, but potentially very good. I wish we had a dominant DT like Jerome, Sapp, Tez, or Big Vince, to compliment the best set of ends we’ve had since forever. All truly great Miami defenses have had that DT.

He has a tendency to out-coach himself. Too many average QBs looked like Tom Brady against him. I’d like to see this cease.

Recruiting does need to pick up some on defense. There have been some great evaluations like Garvin and Rosseau.

Who would be on your short list?

As much as I'm going to get backlash for this, obviously his success in his current position would be a huge determining factor, Cristobal would be a guy I think admin should be watching closely. Hes MIAMI guy, an alumni, knows how to recruit, has some connections within the industry and with strong coordinators could be very successful here. I'd watch the Scott frost too. Yes hes at his alma mater but I'm not sure just how well his system will work with big slow Nebraska boys. Just a couple names off the top of my head

Mario? No, not unless he proves himself at Oregon. And proof would be a few PAC12 titles and Top 10 seasons. Not ‘he did okay for Oregon and he would kill at Miami’. His recruiting prowess is overrated. Alabama is Nick Saban.

Frost? No chance. I think he’ll be successful at Nebraska. And if not, he failed. Why hire a failure?

As I said, UM should be watching cristobal very closely. Hes got one of the best QBs in the nation. I agree, a Pac 12 championship and stockpiling talent would be a good indicator.

As for Frost, hes been successful at Oregon and UCF but depended on talent from cali, TX, and FL. If he can convince players from these states to spend 3-5 years up in Nebraska he'll be fine. But even if he cant and gets fired hes still the guy that led a UCF team to an undefeated season. He can coach! His success in his current role will depend on whether OOS recruits will want to be in Nebraska. He wouldn't have that problem in MIAMI.

We agree on Mario. He has a great QB and needs to prove he’s not a corch. I need to see a solid multiple-season run, PAC-12 titles, and beating other good, if not better teams. Beat Washington, Stanford, USC, and UCLA (assuming Chip Kelly gets them on track).

Frost will have a challenge stocking his roster with his type of player, but he seems smart enough to adapt to and influence Big 10 play. Plus, he’s not retooling a Tom Osborne NU team. The Huskers recruit nationally. We’ll see.

Time will tell, he still hasn't fielded a dominant defense. Yes you can point to a few statistics but the main ones we are still middle of the pack. Flashes of his old UT defense came out at times last year. He's never truly fielded a top 10 defense so we will see. He needs to stop with these drives that let's them get all the down the field and then hope for a turnover. Felt to much like a bend don't break with a couple of agressive calls but only when the field is smaller behind the defense
