Feldman: 40 coaches on the rise entering the 2018 college...

Bruce Feldman put out his top 40 coaches on the rise list. I was surprised to see Diaz ranked so high:

The Miami native has been Mark Richt’s best hire. Diaz, 44, is one of the brightest people working in college football. Diaz, one of the godfathers of the ’Canes Turnover Chain, has a great feel for what makes his guys tick and understands how to motivate people. Last season, he led a group that topped the country in sacks, was third in tackles for loss and ninth in yards per play. In 2015, the year before he arrived, UM ranked No. 64, No. 95 and No. 86 in those categories. His defense should be nasty again in the front seven and figures to be one of the country’s best overall this fall. The hunch here is that 58-year-old Richt won’t coach into his mid-60s and Diaz is lined up to be his successor, or he could be in line for pretty good Power 5 jobs before then.

The last sentence bears attention regardless of how you feel about Diaz and whether he is Richt's best hire or not.

if CMR starts to win BIG, he'll stick around for a pretty good amount of time...
 
Look if we keep improving, and are consistently in the national conversation, competing for championships over the next 5-8 years, I can definitely see him being our next head coach. With that being said, Richt has been a god send for our program. Not looking forward to a new coach any time soon. He is our guy, I can really see him winning big here and ultimately solidifying his legacy as a CFB coach.
 
Get us a top 5 defense a couple years running and then we can revisit where he ranks.

A bit premature at this point.
 
With what's going on down here QB's you would think would be clamoring to play here , it's just hasn't been the case it's been a tug of war to lasso one in , does anyone else feel that way ?

Year 3 will tell a lot, especially with Kuligowski gone. I'm really curious what the consensus is right now. It seemed everyone was ecstatic with Diaz after the first season, but last year there was a lot of frustration in the game threads despite all the turnovers.

I find that statement particularly careless, given Feldman is an alum. First, I have seen absolutely nothing to indicate Richt does not want to continue coaching well into his sixties. He could have left the game easily when he left Georgia. He put his own money into the IPF. Not saying he's wrong, but I've seen zero evidence to support the statement.

Further, after Randy Shannon, I find it EXTREMELY unlikely the University will ever hire an assistant without HC experience again. I love Diaz, I'm not against it, but I doubt it will happen. Seems like Feldman throwing $#!+ at the wall at hoping it sticks.
 
When we move on from Richt I'm hoping it's offense. I get it, Saban and Smart are defensive guys at the top of the pack right now, but theyre silly anomalies who's schools are dishing out big bags. Golden and NoD aside I think it's a bit easier for Miami to consistently field a good defense than offense. A guy like Jimbo at Florida State had a ton of stability on the offensive side of the ball, and had a multiple d coordinators have success.

I think Florida under Muschamp is an example of what can happen in state without an great offensive coach. Their defense would have likely been solid no matter what, may as well have gone offensive HC. I'd much rather have my DC's going on to become head coaches than my OC's as the Qb's need to learn a new system. An offensive HC keeps your offense around for good. We play 4-3 aggressive defense here and we'll be fine no matter who it is if they don't try and be too cute. (Why I'm reserved about crowning Diaz).

Agreed. As great as the stats have been, there hasn't been a single game (Notre Dame included) where I felt that our D dominated a game from beginning to end. We've had great quarters and timely turnovers, but no dominant games.
 
I wasn't a Richt fan, i wanted butch but i have heard from people around the program he is hungry to win and prove UGA wrong.
i wouldnt be surprised if Manny was a HC in waiting. Manny is so miami. he tried his style in SEC and Big 12 but he is south florida to
his core.

Diaz is overrated to be honest. He gets to pretty by playing more players and not the best players. If I was Diaz right now I would run the 4-2-5 and move Redwine back to corner and have Bandy and Carter starting. Carter has the best range even over JJohnson. I'm telling you guys now that left side of our defense will probably be the weak link without Chad and McIntosh

Carter doesnt have the best range and he isnt all that in coverage. Carter is a in the box safety.
 
neee to see more from Diaz. I dont Dislike him and he’s worlds better than donofrio that’s for **** sure.
