Fall Camp Media Day - Tuesday July 30th

Per Canesport's write up on Lance Guidry's remarks:

“We have to develop to where we have five corners at least to feel good,” “I feel we’re in a better spot this year than we were last year. Safety is where our low number count is and we’re a little thin, so we have to stay healthy.”

Guidry said Powell will play free safety and be spotted in at nickel at times – he played nickel in the spring but played safety at Washington. Guidry said Brown and Richard will play nickel and that right now it’s Brown as the starting nickel.

Of moving Powell from nickel in the spring to safety now: “It’s important he’s back there, he can make some checks, has a lot of games back there (at Washington). We have to grow that other safety position, have some guys that did really well this spring.”

Guidry said of the young DBs that true freshman OJ Frederique has impressed in particular so far.

“There’s a lot of competition on the defensive line right now. The strength of our team is on the interior with the defensive line, offensive line.”

Guidry pointed to Aguirre in particular as making big strides and said Alderman “is a lot like Kiko Mauigoa) as far as instincts, very, very smart. Kind of a combination of Kiko and Wesley. Has played a lot of meaningful snaps, we really needed that. After that you have guys that happened to play a lot of snaps like Popo, Bobby Washington, (Cam) Pruitt.”
Big takeaway here is that it sounds like Hill is likely starting opposite Porter at boundary

Solves our safety depth problem. What does it mean for Nickel though?

NM, Guidry answered my question a few posts later. Brown’s our guy. … the mope in me says this means Markeith didn’t cut it as our starter. But I also always wanted Meesh at S so I am hopeful Brown can man that Nickel spot and make the whole unit better.

but fsu will tell you they in a better spot lol

Relationships and recruiting the roster we have got this dude here and will get other qbs here in the future. Just like Kirby wasnt going to get Lawrence during his first seasons of a rebuild but then started getting guys when the roster was done. Smart qbs look at the roster

FSU fans are changing history. They're pretending that DJU was their first choice and not plan B.

Bro you’ve been consistent for years that it’s all about the talent. And we’re seeing it play out right now. Winners want to play with winners.

Guidry has the calm look to him again. He knows these DL and LBs going to open things up. I guess they feel good about Hill at Nickel to say Powell will be safety.

Yeah, experience tells me moving Meesh was more because Williams isn’t ready than Brown is. But we’ll see. The rest of the roster is thick. We are going to dominate.

Just looked at the Spring photo collage -- who this this guy? Dude's stout.

Lofton will be on the field a lot from the 1st Q of the Florida game.
No he won’t. They not relying on no freshmen on the road in a hostile environment in his first ever game. Who he playing over? He not taking martinez or fletcher reps. He not taking arroyo reps. He taking Riley reps? The kid may play some through the season especially if injuries happen but don’t let the green tree stuff fool you

They were TF they always look big in HS film but are actually tiny when they get here (big pauses)

Also what Dawson said about different personnel you can run other things. Shows you them boys ain’t trust TVD like a lot of us said.

He said it differently but you can read between the lines.

I bet you have the pause button on a necklace.

That's why I said "shuffling" in there as well.

In theory, if someone like Bell or Samson proved to be worthy at right tackle, it could afford us the luxury to move Francis to LG in order to get the best 5 out there at once.

My point is, we need to figure out that combo as soon as possible so we can start giving the starting 5 as many reps together asap.
I'm sure the coaches have a good idea who the starting 5 might be. Camp is about solidifying the rotation. I like that we cross train our OL. There are going to be injuries. I think 8 guys are going to play. Rivers, McCoy, Carpenter, Cooper, and Mauigoa likely the starting 5. Okunlola, Bell, and Kinsler should see significant playing time as backups and could start due to injury.

It's not about who Lofton plays over. It's about the plays being called and the personnel for those plays. There are specific plays and formations where Lofton accels. He can line up as FB or H-B and catch play action passes all day or be a lead blocker for our RB. He adds more dimensions to the offense. He's another weapon in Dawson's Toolbox.

If he is on the field that means somebody will have to come off. I think he may get reps but he not playing a lot from 1q on like that guy was saying
