I was thinking do we have a shot at a double VT legacy and why is Damione Lewis the Houston recruiter?
So Lewis is from Northeast Texas, but he played his last year of professional football with the Houston Texans. His teammate just so happened to be Duane Brown, as well as fellow UMiami Alumni Darryl Sharpton, Eric Winston, Rashad Butler, Andre Johnson, and Chris Meyers.
He joined the team mid-year in late October 2010, played ten games, and would get released in the final cuts early September 2011. Meyers, Johnson and Lewis overlapped for one year, the year 2000. So despite the 11 month stint, I imagine the U guys ingratiated him into the locker room pretty quickly.
Lewis was on the Seattle Seahawks staff in 2017 & 2020-2023. Duane Brown played for the Seahawks from 2017 to 2021.
Damione Lewis as a defensive assistant,….. Lewis, a former NFL defensive end who was a first-round pick out of Miami, most recently served as assistant athletic director at Florida International University. Lewis had previously spent time with the Seahawks' coaching staff in 2017 as part of the NFL's Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship
Will have to look out for any quotes in the interviews to see how cool Brown & Lewis are. So despite the double VT legacy and a renewed program over there, we may have a puncher’s chance here.
Sidebar, It’s kinda funny going through this 2010 Texans roster; they found the schools they love and stuck with em: USC, UMiami, Bama, Purdue, Tennessee, NC State, Wisconsin for TEs, Colorado State, Virginia Tech, etc. 80 % of the roster has guys who have at least one teammate who went to the same school as them.
