Eye Candy

After the bye week, we heard how great the practices were. We heard that the offense needed this bye week to re-group, so-to-speak. Coming in to this game, against an aggressive defense that still smells of coach Don Brown, I thought this would’ve been a great opportunity to introduce some eye candy.

See, eye candy gets ppl distracted. If a man is walking w his woman and some eye candy walks by, it’s not as easy to stay focused on his lady, as opposed to if he were to walk in a room full of Roseanne Barr look-a-likes.

U know, football is the same way. BC introduced a whole lotta eye candy this game, stiffling even one of the most stingy defenses in the nation. Whether it was a double TE set to set up the TE seam route & TE screen disguised as a power run, to motions that couldn’t be deciphered if it was a jet sweep, a quick dive, a WR option, or to simply create a WR mismatch, to the simple play action pass; all of this eye candy left our defense second guessing, confused, unfocused, thus forcing us to become passive v. staying in our aggressive nature.

So here comes Richt, and wouldn’t u know after this bye week, the only difference from two weeks ago was more quick slants and designed QB draws.

Well, that type of play calling works IF ur up 3 scores, but unfortunately we were playing from behind the entire game. The fact is our offense is Roseanne Barr; it’s ploppy and it’s a has-been. There’s no eye candy, thus defenses can focus and zero in. It’s not due to the lack of play makers or the proverbial “execution; our offense is failing due to the lack of offensive appeal. It’s simple, it’s basic and archaic.

I liken our offense to this:

When we play a team like SSt or Toledo, our offense is a still a 5 but it looks like a 10. It’s no different than the nerd boy thinking his Plain Jane Chick is a 10 when, in actuality, she’s a 5. She’s a 10 to him, well b/c he’s never experienced a 10 before so this 5 is alright w him. BUT take that same 5 to the shores of Miami Beach, and oh yes! It’s clear she’s a 5 now!

When we take Richt’s offense and it matches against the SSt of the world, of course it’s look good. They haven’t seen teams like ours where they’re from, but once he takes this same offense to the shores of Miami Beach or against Power 5 conferences, it’s exposed as the Plain Jane bull chit that it is. There’s no eye candy; nothing to distract the defense, thus any and every QB and OL in this system will struggle here.

It’s quite sad, when we think about it. We have all the pieces. We’re probably, on paper, the 3rd most talented team in the ACC. We’re supposed to be led by this great coach from the almighty SEC, and yet we’re a bland program. That’s right, we’re bland b/c there’s nothing appealing about us, no eye candy to distract the defense and to make the offense easier to operate. There’s no spirit from the coaching staff, no leadership.

Who would’ve thought that Coley’s offense shined brighter than Richt’s and had more of an appeal to watch?

We should have known when Rosier was saying the O did well enough against the D to have Manny yelling at them that it just meant the D was regressing and had nothing to do with the O.

Well said! We have the most boring, predictable offense in the country. We were freaking spiking the ball on first downs during our 2 minute offense b/c we can’t call plays quick enough
