Fedora wasn't a "Miami guy", a stupid notion many Miami fans need to exorcise from their consciousness.

The thing yall not realizing is...

The whole ACC just upgraded their coaching from top to bottom. Unless we get a guy who can keep up with their X's and O's we're going to have to recruit all-star squads. And in this day and age it's harder to do that. The landscape of college football is not the same as it was in the late 90's.

Richt is going to actually have to COACH every week. We're not playing against slappy coaches every week anymore. Fuente (with Foster), Bronco, Fedora, Narduzzi, Babers, Jimbo, Dabo, Petrino, Cutcliff, etc. You might be able to beat some of their teams based on talent alone but when it's time to win the Coastal, you're gonna have to win with X's and O's. And unless a change is made he will NEVER beat Fedora or Fuente on a regular basis when it comes to that. Narduzzi ain't gonna be a push over either.

And that's just the coastal. If we had to play for the ACCC we'd get raped by Petrino or Dabo.

Can you honestly say that Richt is even a top-5 coach in his conference?

You're crushing this thread like a monster stepping on tiny Japanese people. But this, in particular, is right on point.

Rix has proven beyond all shadow of doubt this year he's not going to win any x and o battles against decent teams. Question is is he smart and honest enough to realize that, or is he another stubborn ******** who digs his heels in and further drives the program into irrelevance as he waits for "his guys" to inhabit the program?

Richt didn't just forget how to coach. It's been a slow, gradual decline. Don't be fooled by UGA winning 10 games last year. We were a paper tiger. The only team we beat with a winning record was Georgia Southern...in overtime. There's a reason we were the first 10-win team in history to finish unranked. We were awful and he left the cupboard bare.

Richt was an elite coach from 2001-2005. He showed flashes after that: 2007 and 2012. But the truth is, his recruiting had dropped way off. Our OL this year, with his players, is horrendous. We have no wide receivers and have to start a freshman QB. Reading this board is almost a carbon copy of what was on the Dawgvent during his last several years.

You'll love Richt as a person. He's an awesome and genuinely good person; but he hasn't been fully invested in coaching since Kathryn got cancer years ago (and there were some other family issues as well). Football just isn't his top priority...and good for him, because I put my family ahead of my career, too. But I'm not paid $4 million a year. When you're paid that kind of money, you're being paid to put everything else on the backburner.

There was talk around Athens starting around 2013, from people close to him, that he was about a year away from retiring. Then we'd have a disappointing year and he'd decide to stick around another year. So after being forced out at UGA, I was shocked he took another job. I really think he took y'all's job out of spite for our AD...because the last few years, he looked completely beaten down, too. But spite, despite being out of character for Richt, won't fuel him long enough to be successful. He's washed up...and has been for about 4-5 years.

Richt left the cupboard bare is not supported by the actual numbers.

From 2011 to 2015 Richt had the 5th highest composite class ranking out of every other team in the country.

The SEC had 3 teams finish ahead of Richt and overall had 8 of the top 15 teams.

Educate yourself.

Between the Class of 2013 & 2014 the Bulldogs signed a total of 51 players. 24 of those players have either transferred, been dismissed and/or exhausted their eligibility. That leaves the Dawgs with only 27 upperclassmen on their roster from the Class of 2013 & 2014. Of those 27 players there are only 3 senior starters and there are 8 junior starters. There is also a total of 5 total significant contributors from each of those classes for the Dawgs. The Class of 2013 is the class that has set the Bulldogs back a tremendous amount and a big reason for the current struggles. Only 1 of the Top 10 ranked players from the Bulldogs Class of 2013 is a contributor (Brandon Kublanow). Only 3 are still on campus. You can’t say anything other than terrible. You cannot compete and win against quality opponents if that is how you recruit.

Well, first, you realize no one from the 2011 class would still be there, right?

I'm not sure of the rankings you're using, but according to Rivals we finished:
2012: 12th/4th
2013: 12th/7th
2014: 7th/5th
2015: 6th/3rd
Adding 2016, for which he should get the lionshare of credit...
2016: 10th/5th

That means over the last five years, we've averaged about the 5th best class in the SEC. That's not exactly loaded. Also, and this won't show up in the recruiting rankings, but the mediocre talent we're talking about came at a really bad time for Richt. Due to his lack of roster management, we ended up starting fall camp in 2012 with only 69 scholarship players. There was no probation or extenuating circumstances. He just had several years of not signing enough players. We'd get left at the alter on signing day and he no backup plan. Think about that...69 players! That's worse than Southern Cal when they were recently on probation. Anyway, he needed a big class in 2013 and completely whiffed. Even if the ranking looks ok, that class has decimated our program:

Between the Class of 2013 & 2014 the Bulldogs signed a total of 51 players. 24 of those players have either transferred, been dismissed and/or exhausted their eligibility. That's what we're dealing with for upperclassmen right now...coming on the heels of Richt's self-imposed probation.

How are the cupboards bare if the recruiting classes been ranked #11 , #6 , #7 , #12 , #12 in the last 5 years? Seems like an excuse for the new coach.

*edit* I see where you explained it a little bit in a later post. Roster management is a bigger deal sometimes that raw numbers. But you don't get penalized just because you happen to be in a strong conference. It isn't like a new coach is all of a sudden going to leap frog Bama in recruiting.

SEC is terrible, thats why he is bad in ACC play.

It's terrible but in a unique way. There's a reason you don't see any NFL teams trying to hire these SEC coaches despite they success. Many of them aren't actually great x and o'x guys. However, they are great at using boosters money to buy recruits and the best support staff available. This is why even two mediocre big 12 programs seemed to have instant success after moving to the SEC despite people making comments like, just imagine how bad this team or that team would be in the SEC. This is totally ignoring the built in benefits from coaching in the SEC that you won't find in the ACC. You actually have to be able to coach in order to succeed here. Not just be a good CEO

Miami plays in the awful Coastal Division where the top two teams lost to SEC East teams. You don't need to be a top shelf coach in this league to be successful, especially at a place like Miami.

I'm talking bigger picture. Not just winning the coastal. The point I was making is he most likely won't be able to recruit well enough here to make up for his shortcomings as an x and o's guy unless he brings in an actual OC

What I know about Richt is that kids LOVE him and he can recruit his a$$ off. He does some brilliant things in recruiting. The way he has his coach's wives engage recruits, the way he goes out to the optimist programs, even down to jumping off the diving platform at Paradise Camp. All of those little details matter. He has a way of making kid feel like they're important and building a family atmosphere.

If he can bring in a forward thinking, innovative offensive guy then he can be very successful here. Maybe unstoppable.

I'll take your word for it, although we continue to lose out on elite talent in the 17' class. They must not "love" him too much considering the meh we see on the recruiting trail ATM.

You're assuming that Butch would recruit better. Remember how this new generation of kids are divas and maybe think again, are you still so sure ? Because it's been pointed out that Richt has on average the 5th best class over the past 5 years. But you're so sure Butch would blow his recruiting out of the water?
Not to mention that Richt technically has not even signed a recruiting class of his own yet, so i'm not sure what you're even basing his recruiting here off of. We're still 3 months from signing day
