how many coaches have an NC in the last 15 years? its not like HS where u have a handful of state champs

richt by ALL accounts was a beast until 2006. do u realize after that he couldnt even hire his own assistants? there is an untold story. look, i dont know if he will work but he had 150 wins in SEC. u mean to tell me he had 150 wins against cupcakes. thats amazing luck. last year he was 9-3 and barely lost a game where chubbs leg broke in half. he was on verge of 10-2. he had the top qb in nation committed.
That's great. He almost always had superior talent to his opponents. You're expected to win 10+ games a year under those circumstances. You guys act like UGA was devoid of talent.
what did they have before he got there? u do realize recuiting is a big part of it. its not the nfl where they have a front office making those decisions lol
There's absolutely nothing cool about recruiting well if you're not winning championships. It's meaningless.
You guys get hard-ons over sending guys to the NFL. I don't get it.
"Hey Mark, did you win any NC's during your tenure at UGA?"
"Nah, but I sent a bunch of guys to the NFL."
*blank stare*

Talent wise uga wasnt more talented than uf or tenn. The dude went 9-3 with grayson lambert as the qb. The same dude who couldnt even keep the starting job at uva more than 2 games at a time.
I'm willing to bet there were seasons where he had more talent than them.
You guys are ridiculous with this Butch ****.
Get out of the past, man!
Butch leaving is why we are in the this boat the last 15 years. however, how he saved this program cant be forgotten
How'd he "save" this program, by recruiting a bunch of studs and then leaving them in the hands of the guy who started our downfall?
He then went on to ruin a stud-filled UNC program. (all while under-achieving at the same time)
It's hilarious to me that people want Butch, who was terrible while at UNC, but scoff at the idea of hiring Fedora. LOL
Canes fans are ridiculous. If you can't hire Saban or Meyer, they'll want Butch because of what he did almost 20 years ago.
People should have concern about Richt, but at the same time don't be surprised with the results we have given the holes in the roster he inherited. If by year 3 we're seeing the same thing from Richt, then it's warranted to get rid of him.
I just think it's flat out ridiculous for calling for the man's job when he hasn't even got 1 of his own recruiting classes in yet.
The thing yall not realizing is...
The whole ACC just upgraded their coaching from top to bottom. Unless we get a guy who can keep up with their X's and O's we're going to have to recruit all-star squads. And in this day and age it's harder to do that. The landscape of college football is not the same as it was in the late 90's.
Richt is going to actually have to COACH every week. We're not playing against slappy coaches every week anymore. Fuente (with Foster), Bronco, Fedora, Narduzzi, Babers, Jimbo, Dabo, Petrino, Cutcliff, etc. You might be able to beat some of their teams based on talent alone but when it's time to win the Coastal, you're gonna have to win with X's and O's. And unless a change is made he will NEVER beat Fedora or Fuente on a regular basis when it comes to that. Narduzzi ain't gonna be a push over either.
And that's just the coastal. If we had to play for the ACCC we'd get raped by Petrino or Dabo.
Can you honestly say that Richt is even a top-5 coach in his conference?
Don't be ridiculous. He played for the SEC crown 5 times, and won it twice. Had a few teams that were championship-caliber. Sent a ton of guys to the NFL. He's empirically more proven than Babers, Fedora, Fuente, Mullen, or Herman.
We gambled on an up-and-comer with Golden and went bust. I knew we weren't going to do it again so soon.

1. We gambled on the wrong guy (i.e. Golden). Not sure why that is a point going forward. Does that mean that every young coach we hire is doomed to fail? We made a bad decision with Golden and then our admin doubled downed with an unnecessary extension. That is on them. This doesn't prove that every young "qualified" coach will fail at UM. We should have learned a lot with Golden, we didn't.
2. Didn't we gamble when we hired Richt? Wasn't he fired?
We hired a guy and we knew the following:
- His inferior record against ranked opponents,
- His record against UF (Urban came into the conference in 2005 (05-10). During that time Richt went 1-5 against UF,
- He hasn't won the conference since 2005, his real success came before Saban,
- His last 3 seasons: 27 - 11 (16-8), zero division titles and zero BCS games. For his career, he has a 74% winning percentage. During that span he had a 71%. In conference for his career 69%. During that span 67%. The point is the numbers are falling, the coaching has been better (opponent wise).
For a team looking to win our conference, make BCS games and win championships, isn't Richt a gamble? Considering it has been awhile since his last conference championship. Considering his record against ranked opponents. That is also a gamble.
SEC is terrible, thats why he is bad in ACC play.
It's terrible but in a unique way. There's a reason you don't see any NFL teams trying to hire these SEC coaches despite they success. Many of them aren't actually great x and o'x guys. However, they are great at using boosters money to buy recruits and the best support staff available. This is why even two mediocre big 12 programs seemed to have instant success after moving to the SEC despite people making comments like, just imagine how bad this team or that team would be in the SEC. This is totally ignoring the built in benefits from coaching in the SEC that you won't find in the ACC. You actually have to be able to coach in order to succeed here. Not just be a good CEO

I'm calling for his OC job. I love him as HC though.
Every coaching candidate in the country is/was a gamble. This line of thinking is juvenile. Malzahn - gamble, Kirby Smart - gamble, Strong - gamble, UF weirdo - gamble...we could do this all day, even at programs with significantly more resources and better recent pedigree than Miami - all gambles. If a program does not hire Saban, Urban, Harbaugh, maybe Peterson, and perhaps a handful more - it is a gamble. None of those guys, or even guys close to that mix were walking through Miami's door. Not last year, not today, not ever. Herman was a sure thing 3 weeks ago and now he would be a gamble on here. Period. Golden was a gamble like betting that Browns will make the playoffs, Richt was a gamble like betting that the Falcons will win the superbowl - both unlikely, but the odds were significantly different. Richt seems to lack testosterone and seems a bit flaccid, but he knows what he is doing and as far as running a program, giving the program some renewed respect after a semi-retarded Shanoon, and complete dingbat like Golden. So yes Richt is a gamble, but to paint a straw-man that he is a gamble "to win championships" is retarded...every coaching the country would be gamble to make that threshold short of maybe 3-4 guys that would laugh at the idea of coaching this crap-show down here. Richt was not hired to win championships - if that comes great, wow, yippee - he was hired to give this program some **** dignity and simply make it relevant again in modern college football -which it is not nor has it been for approaching two decades. Mimai fans should be thanking their lucky straws that UM actually committed the monies to be able to hire a guy like Richt. That is all this hiring is about and all that matter - the administration signaled that UM is serious about its football program after years of fapping around. Will he get it right? Who knows? Will he win the ACC eventually? No idea. But Richt was hardly a gamble relative to the throngs of one-night-stand looney-bins that many on this board tout as being a better gamble than a guy that has won, that has respect, that is a CEO, that has honed it metal in the SEC forge of hellishness....he just needs some Viagra it appears.

Please edit this to make sense. How about a paragraph? Please note I didn't bring up the gamble.

You wanna start threads dissin us show yo *** up to lot 12 blue lot bro. We rep for our city and team what about you? Wanna be a keyboard gangsta but none of yall *****es wanna man up and come face us. Keep hidin behind this ****. We dem blue lot boyz 1000 deep on game days. We bout dat bodybag lyfe--come see bout us if you wanna talk ****. Dade county, hialeah, west kendall, stand da **** up!
Richt didn't just forget how to coach. It's been a slow, gradual decline. Don't be fooled by UGA winning 10 games last year. We were a paper tiger. The only team we beat with a winning record was Georgia Southern...in overtime. There's a reason we were the first 10-win team in history to finish unranked. We were awful and he left the cupboard bare.
Richt was an elite coach from 2001-2005. He showed flashes after that: 2007 and 2012. But the truth is, his recruiting had dropped way off. Our OL this year, with his players, is horrendous. We have no wide receivers and have to start a freshman QB. Reading this board is almost a carbon copy of what was on the Dawgvent during his last several years.
You'll love Richt as a person. He's an awesome and genuinely good person; but he hasn't been fully invested in coaching since Kathryn got cancer years ago (and there were some other family issues as well). Football just isn't his top priority...and good for him, because I put my family ahead of my career, too. But I'm not paid $4 million a year. When you're paid that kind of money, you're being paid to put everything else on the backburner.
There was talk around Athens starting around 2013, from people close to him, that he was about a year away from retiring. Then we'd have a disappointing year and he'd decide to stick around another year. So after being forced out at UGA, I was shocked he took another job. I really think he took y'all's job out of spite for our AD...because the last few years, he looked completely beaten down, too. But spite, despite being out of character for Richt, won't fuel him long enough to be successful. He's washed up...and has been for about 4-5 years.

As I said in a different post, I really wanted Fuente or Herman (or Chip if he went back to college). But I knew the admin wasn't going to pull the trigger on move like that in light of the Golden disaster. Other than Richt, the names that were circulating were Butch, Schiano, and Cristobal. Out of those four names, I thought Richt was the best choice.

Miami plays in the awful Coastal Division where the top two teams lost to SEC East teams. You don't need to be a top shelf coach in this league to be successful, especially at a place like Miami.
