Explain this to me

You guys are ridiculous with this Butch ****.

Get out of the past, man!

Butch leaving is why we are in the this boat the last 15 years. however, how he saved this program cant be forgotten

How'd he "save" this program, by recruiting a bunch of studs and then leaving them in the hands of the guy who started our downfall?

He then went on to ruin a stud-filled UNC program. (all while under-achieving at the same time)

It's hilarious to me that people want Butch, who was terrible while at UNC, but scoff at the idea of hiring Fedora. LOL

first off, i would take fedora but your kind of leaving a few things out.

Butch inherited a program under suspension that basically had a juco roster limit. they didnt even have enough guys to practice. he also recruited nationally to get kids because FSU was so strong they were locking florida up. he developed those studs. you are right tho, he wound up destroying what he built.

second, stud-filled unc? he didnt win big there but before he got there they were lucky to win 5 games. it was a mess for quite a few years. he then had them churning out a handful of NFL picks every year.

The guys who diss Butch rode Golden's *******. Don't waste your time talking to them.

Your last sentence basically proved my point. A handful of NFL picks every year with no success to show for it.

He had studs on that UNC team. That's what Butch is good at, recruiting.

I'm starting to think that all you guys care about is recruiting and putting guys in the NFL. ***** that, I want someone who's innovative and forward thinking. A genius play-caller.

yeah but those kids werent there until he got there.

Listen, i remember yelling at the screen during butch years. I HATED coker as an OC so trust me, i get your point on alot of it.

Butch is the past? So are all the other coaches we recently could have had. We are stuck with Richt and his hobo offense.

Who are these guys that we "could have had"?

You're telling me we couldn't have had (or at least pursued) Babers, Fedora, Fuente, Mullen or Herman?

WTF are you talking about? I hated the Golden hire. Matter of fact, I called his failure when he first got here.

Richt is more proven then all of them. Fedora is only other one i consider. herman is falling off this year

And?

So you're giving him credit for putting NFL talent on UNC's roster? (and not winning with it)

More proven based on what? His long record of under achievement at UGA? That's your definition of proven?

LOL @ Herman is falling off. Richt has had SEVERAL seasons in his career where he's fallen off.

Don't be ridiculous. He played for the SEC crown 5 times, and won it twice. Had a few teams that were championship-caliber. Sent a ton of guys to the NFL. He's empirically more proven than Babers, Fedora, Fuente, Mullen, or Herman.

We gambled on an up-and-comer with Golden and went bust. I knew we weren't going to do it again so soon.

Why do you guys always talk about how many dudes a coach sent to the NFL?

Unless you're accompanying that with championships then that's NOT A GOOD THING. Sending a bunch of guys to the NFL is not something to brag about if you haven't won any championships. All you're doing is highlighting an under-achievement.

The problem with the Golden hire was that he wasn't really an "up and comer". He won 9 games at Temple but they never played anybody and he had the best roster in his conference.

UM didn't evaluate his tenure at Temple thoroughly enough.

Guys like Fedora and Fuente are excelling with second tier talent.

richt by ALL accounts was a beast until 2006. do u realize after that he couldnt even hire his own assistants? there is an untold story. look, i dont know if he will work but he had 150 wins in SEC. u mean to tell me he had 150 wins against cupcakes. thats amazing luck. last year he was 9-3 and barely lost a game where chubbs leg broke in half. he was on verge of 10-2. he had the top qb in nation committed.

That's great. He almost always had superior talent to his opponents. You're expected to win 10+ games a year under those circumstances. You guys act like UGA was devoid of talent.

what did they have before he got there? u do realize recuiting is a big part of it. its not the nfl where they have a front office making those decisions lol

Because it's proof that guys are being evaluated and developed.

Besides, the point I was addressing is who is more proven. There's no logical argument that Dino Babers, Tom Herman, etc... are more proven than Richt. Perhaps those guys would've been better choices. I really wanted Chip (if he went back to college), Fuente, or Herman. But more proven is a different argument.

Hindsight is always 20/20. There was a very small minority that didn't like the Golden hire, but he was widely considered an up-and-comer.

There's absolutely nothing cool about recruiting well if you're not winning championships. It's meaningless.

You guys get hard-ons over sending guys to the NFL. I don't get it.

"Hey Mark, did you win any NC's during your tenure at UGA?"

"Nah, but I sent a bunch of guys to the NFL."

*blank stare*

Talent wise uga wasnt more talented than uf or tenn. The dude went 9-3 with grayson lambert as the qb. The same dude who couldnt even keep the starting job at uva more than 2 games at a time.

I'm willing to bet there were seasons where he had more talent than them.

Canes fans are ridiculous. If you can't hire Saban or Meyer, they'll want Butch because of what he did almost 20 years ago.

People should have concern about Richt, but at the same time don't be surprised with the results we have given the holes in the roster he inherited. If by year 3 we're seeing the same thing from Richt, then it's warranted to get rid of him.

I just think it's flat out ridiculous for calling for the man's job when he hasn't even got 1 of his own recruiting classes in yet.
