Explain this to me

Richt didn't just forget how to coach. It's been a slow, gradual decline. Don't be fooled by UGA winning 10 games last year. We were a paper tiger. The only team we beat with a winning record was Georgia Southern...in overtime. There's a reason we were the first 10-win team in history to finish unranked. We were awful and he left the cupboard bare.

Richt was an elite coach from 2001-2005. He showed flashes after that: 2007 and 2012. But the truth is, his recruiting had dropped way off. Our OL this year, with his players, is horrendous. We have no wide receivers and have to start a freshman QB. Reading this board is almost a carbon copy of what was on the Dawgvent during his last several years.

You'll love Richt as a person. He's an awesome and genuinely good person; but he hasn't been fully invested in coaching since Kathryn got cancer years ago (and there were some other family issues as well). Football just isn't his top priority...and good for him, because I put my family ahead of my career, too. But I'm not paid $4 million a year. When you're paid that kind of money, you're being paid to put everything else on the backburner.

There was talk around Athens starting around 2013, from people close to him, that he was about a year away from retiring. Then we'd have a disappointing year and he'd decide to stick around another year. So after being forced out at UGA, I was shocked he took another job. I really think he took y'all's job out of spite for our AD...because the last few years, he looked completely beaten down, too. But spite, despite being out of character for Richt, won't fuel him long enough to be successful. He's washed up...and has been for about 4-5 years.

this post is dead on. I am a transplanted Cane living in Georgia, surrounded by UGA fans. The fans who were upset about him being fired were upset for ONE reason and ONE reason only ... he is a good man and a Christian. Talk to any UGA fan who eliminated faith from the equation and they wanted him gone 5 years ago. That is a fact. I am not saying he is garbage as a coach, but his goals as a coach and the goals of the fans are NOT the same. He is NOT judging his success by wins and losses. When he says his goal is to make better people, fathers, human beings, etc ... he MEANS it. Winning is secondary. There is nothing wrong with that, but it is not going to go over well with a city and fan base that has been suffering with mediocrity for 10+ years. I think if next year goes much the same as this year there is a good chance he walks away. He was hurt when he got fired from Georgia (way more so than most coaches are) and he made an impulsive decision based on emotion that might work out, but might keep us right where we are for another 3-4 years.

Well its too late with the money miami put up we fked cause hes here for four years. We would of had a hungry butch going ape **** on the ncaa n we fked up lol incredible

He's here a lot longer than 4 years. He will eventually get us to a consistent 9-10 win team. But expect 3 or 4 losses every season, and that to be the ceiling for us.

Are we really still talking about this Butch nonsense? No one will touch him. There's a reason for it. Deal with it.

I can agree with this but at the same time no ones convincing me we undefeated unles urban meyer is oc. We dont even have a mobile dude back there.

This team doeant have that much talent like people boast up on here. I been saying this **** forever man the age of the net and camps killed miamis advantage in recruiting....i dont know if we can recover from it.

Gove me juedy and everyother elite sfla kid.....if butch can do it and saban can if he was the miami coach then mr better do it. *** excuses n that they grew up watching this team or that team....make them playhere give them no choice. Be the godfather dont take no for an answer

You're underestimating just how bad this offense is and how much it is impacting the rest of the team. Richt had great players at GA and had difficulty in big games...as I mentioned before his record against ranked opponents has a big enough sample size that it's a concern.

He needs to give up OC duties this offseason...otherwise everyone is going to be off the band wagon and it's going to get ugly.

So y the *** we hire this dude??? Seriously do t understand it then

I wanted butch because i know he gets juedy i know it........i think MR can win here but i have to see this years class to know if he will win....that will tell me what i need to know. Coker couldnt recruit but wo with a roster because it was crooted by butch....shannon one good class then spiraled then agolden one good clas then done same ****....if MR class is worse then the last class and sfla kids r leaving hes in trouble cuz thats a bad sign for me

Same here and I'll finally admit it... i wanted butch...
THis still might work ling term, but I did want Butch

This is y i wanted butch not for play calling but for defense and keeping kids home. U heard mcloud (even tho MR got him) he said if they get butch im in. Butch would have won long term same as MR i think. People deny it but it is what it is

i was a butch guy. felt like it was meant to be with the 30 for 30 and the timing. he was so hungry for redemption.
I accept Richt but now dawgfather has me sacred to death lol

Here's a Georgia fan telling us the hard troof. We're not in the SEC and he's not trolling us. We might not like it but it's his read on Richt.

I actually think that if Richt operates as an administrator and hired an OC then we can achieve... Otherwise we're fûcked.

U have ur opinion i have mine....butch is a beast to me....people say he suks because the way he dipped off. And they use the record to indicate his terrible coaching but that doesnt make sense because coker is god then.

Just dont even reply we wont get no where.

alot of other uga fans say something different. however, he scared me.

SEC is terrible, thats why he is bad in ACC play.

It's terrible but in a unique way. There's a reason you don't see any NFL teams trying to hire these SEC coaches despite they success. Many of them aren't actually great x and o'x guys. However, they are great at using boosters money to buy recruits and the best support staff available. This is why even two mediocre big 12 programs seemed to have instant success after moving to the SEC despite people making comments like, just imagine how bad this team or that team would be in the SEC. This is totally ignoring the built in benefits from coaching in the SEC that you won't find in the ACC. You actually have to be able to coach in order to succeed here. Not just be a good CEO

imo butch got us 3 NC's. we would have stomped out Oklahoma and we beat OH St. Butch inherited a mess and learned on the job. if he stayed, none of he problems would have happened. it wasnt easy for him to build a staff with the mess we had. I couldnt stand coker as an OC or HC. But butch had an unmatched eye for talent because he had to recruit back in day w/o all the new technology.

You've been around here long enough to know the retards come out in full force at the BEGINNING of every coaching regime. Then those retards disappear or change screen names when it becomes the main stream point of view that said coach is garbage. This is my 4th go cycle of this so it's a treat to watch them come out in droves right around this time.

You'll see the excuse train in full effect for the rest of this season from the Don Bailey Jr cult brigade.

Maybe. His coordinator hires were never super:

2005: Willie Martinez, Defensive Coordinator. Decent, at times. Completely pathetic at other times. Lasted 5 seasons before getting fired. He inherited a defense that had carried UGA early in Richt's tenure (perhaps you've noticed his conservative playcalling) and made it worse every year until Richt finally had to make a move. Martinez and Richt were extremely close and he probably kept him a few years too long because of that.

2007: Mike Bobo, Offensive Coordinator. Internal hire after Richt gave up playcalling. Bobo had some growing pains, how else do you explain losing to Florida 49-10 with the #1 overall draft pick (Matthew Stafford), the #12 overall draft pick (Knowshon Moreno), a future #4 overall draft pick (AJ Green), and another 2nd round draft pick (Mohamed Massaquoi) all starting at your skill positions. That said, Bobo developed into a **** good OC starting about 2012. I'd love to have him back. Bobo is now the HC at Colorado State.

2010: Todd Grantham, Defensive Coordinator. Fat Todd was a disaster in big games. He managed some solid stats, particularly in 2012, but he never seemed to understand college coaching and treated his players like they were in the NFL. Very poor teacher and our fundamentals were crap.

2014: Jeremy Pruitt, Defensive Coordinator. A very good hire. Pruitt is an exceptional DC. He and Richt had a falling out, however, in 2015 which Richt never recovered from. Pruitt was not very happy with the way the program was being run and wasn't shy about letting Richt know about it. Pruitt is a headcase with a lot of problems, but he's a great DC. Had Richt not been fired, Pruitt would absolutely have moved on this season because he and Richt **** near came to blows.

2015: Brian Schottenheimer, Offensive Coordinator. Terrible hire who flushed our offense completely down the drain. Had Richt not been fired, Schotty would've been.

So, the CEO Richt has a mixed track record, too. After 9 years strictly as a CEO, we ended up in a situation where a lot of people, perhaps even a majority, wanted to give Richt another year. But for what? We would have an obvious lame duck head coach replacing both coordinators with a weak roster. 2016 wasn't going to be any better for us no matter what.

For his recruiting to have fallen way off.. uga sure has some very highly rated classes

His last five years we averaged a top 10 class. But if you look at just SEC teams, our class averaged about 4th in the SEC...which is about where finished up every year. The 2013 class is killing our program right now:
Between the Class of 2013 & 2014 the Bulldogs signed a total of 51 players. 24 of those players have either transferred, been dismissed and/or exhausted their eligibility. That leaves the Dawgs with only 27 upperclassmen on their roster from the Class of 2013 & 2014. Of those 27 players there are only 3 senior starters and there are 8 junior starters. There is also a total of 5 total significant contributors from each of those classes for the Dawgs. The Class of 2013 is the class that has set the Bulldogs back a tremendous amount and a big reason for the current struggles. Only 1 of the Top 10 ranked players from the Bulldogs Class of 2013 is a contributor (Brandon Kublanow). Only 3 are still on campus. You can’t say anything other than terrible. You cannot compete and win against quality opponents if that is how you recruit.

That 2013 class was incredibly important, too. That's because his roster management, which can also go along with the CEO discussion, likely cost us a national title in 2012. We started fall camp in 2012 with 69 scholarship players. No, we were not on probation. Some players got kicked off, some turned pro, but Richt essentially just didn't sign enough players. Think about that. We started a season with 16 fewer scholarship players than we could've had...for no reason. ****, Miami only lost 9 (split over three seasons) for the Shapiro deal. Richt voluntarily had us at almost double that in a single season. So the 2013 class was important, and he whiffed.

No.

He's talked about how that has rejuvenated him and that, after not doing it for so long at Georgia, he's really enjoying it. He also thinks it keeps him more connected...which may be true. After he gave up playcalling at UGA he did become far more detached.

All of you, everyone of you rabid, foaming at the mouth who are calling for BD, would turn as venomous as you are now, at BD's first loss. I may not know much about football, but I know enough about juvenile rants and needless whining when I see it. It, is here.

Again this is a team that lacks the ability to close out big games. It is almost like they find ways to lose games whether it be a PAT or giving up big plays. I don't want to see 1 of these O lineman on the team next season. In fact bench McDermott and Darling now! They suck I would rather have the waterboy play center and RT. Couldn't hurt you see them just whiff play after play? No effort and no ********s. Also sit Searles *ss down and tell him the blocking (or lack there of) is putrid.

I don't think we win another game and I don't know know how we judge Rick other than the offensive play calling is downright offensive. What did they change in game plan from VT? Falling behind 20-0 doesn't show any improvement in fact they regressed big time.

If fans see improvement but the players still suck that is 1 thing. If they don't make changes to this staff after the season the writing is on the wall. Yes aside from Meyer and Herman(who is not having a good season) even the great coaches had bad 1st seasons. Peterson won 6 games at WA 2 years straight until breaking out in year 3.

I don't think next year is much better. Maybe year 3 in the meantime I am not watching this dumpster fire call me when savages show up because this is soft!

I am not giving Rick a pass here. However he did run into a few jaugernauts with Meyer and Saban during his time. The SEC was tough and he did have a few good years. The question is at this point in his life does he want to see through another total rebuild? There is no way 1 of these OLineman are even on the team next year. That was as soft of a performance as I have ever seen. ND had 6 sacks through 5 games and matched the season's output in just 4 quarters.

We knew Rick's history when they hired him so not a shock. Yes GA had a few good classes. However when did GA and savage ever be synonymous? No offense to my GA friends on here just tell me when The Bulldogs ever won outside of the Herschel Walker days? Vince Dooley couldn't win either which is why he retired. Look how Kirby is doing if we are giving Kirby Smart a pass then why not Rick?

This is a different gig here in Miami or at least it was. We are so far deep in the sewer we need to start over. Perhaps the death penalty would have a blessing in disguise? Keeping Folden for 5 years was way way worse than having Rick here 1 or 2 or even 3 years. But this predates Folden this has been a dumpster since Coker. The ineptitude in years is double digits. If that is the case 6 wins is about right for year 1 and maybe year 2. It sucks to face reality but I don't see turning over a new OLine, secondary and QB will make year 2 any better.
