Expectation Gap: Rationale

I believe many were fooled quite simply because we overlooked the ineptitude of Al Golden's offensive players.

The main reason is because, as bad as our offense truly was (especially at TOP, sustaining drives and 3rd down conversions), our defense was much worse.

Not going to pull a bunch of stats on this but the offense, taking our the non P5 conference foes, wasn't exactly a world beater under Alfred.

The expectation is that Mark Richt would make the same guys more productive than James Coley. He's failed, despite the new mantra around here that we somehow ended up with the worst offensive players in the ACC.

we have one of the worst lines in the entire acc. definitely the worst line in the last 35 years.

It's truly incredible that Richt took over the same OL as last year and made them the worst OL in the last 35 years.

Find one position group on O that is performing at the same level tbey did under Al. You can't.

I just can't understand why we run an RPO with a QB that has absolutely no mobility. Doesn't make sense at all. This to me is where Richt has failed the most. Needs to build the offense around the personnel whatever it may be.

Mark Richt'ofrio took over an offense that returned 10 starters and somehow made them worse.

Was it irrational for fans to think that an Offense minded Coach would take that experienced talent and improve it?

The sunshine brigade really has the Richt excuse machine on overdrive

Guys guys!

It's irrational of us to be upset about our coach running a system suited for a Mobile QB with Brad Cement Shoes Kayaa

I jumped the gun this year when I predicted 9-3. 8-4 should have been the real scale. 2017 looks to be a good year projecting a ACC championship.

Clemson will be in a transition year. FSU will be tough even w/o cook. Derwin James should be back.

The defensive backfield will be a HUGE question. Every starter this year is a senior. Mike Rumph has his off season cut out for him.

The other issue is OL. Every starter should be back with a couple of blue chip recruits added.

Even though Coley (the best player on offense this season) will graduate; Njoku, Herndon, Berrios, Richards, & Cager should be fine barring any injuries.

An RPO isn't a zone read. It's a run/pass option. It's a way of building a play-action component into shotgun hand-offs so the LBs can't always crash down as soon as they see the QB put the ball in the tailback's belly.

I expected Butch Davis.

I know what he brings.

So yes....my expectations were WAY too high.

I should have known that Jake Blames who is currently getting pegged by a Margo Dydek look alike could never hire an Alpha like Butch.

If your AD is a sissy, by default your football team will be led by a sissy.

I don't think anyone would be chastising Diaz for the defense if it was terrible. But the offense, no one expected such ineptitude against bad defenses. That's the equivalent of No D making every QB a Heisman candidate. It's real bad
