Expand the ******* recruiting footprint

That's been true to an extent for many years. We won with south Florida kids with a chip on their shoulders, not the marquee players who loved celebrity tours all around the country. It didn't always have to do with going to private school. Again--I'm saying it for the millionth time-- our great teams of the 80's and early 90's were not filled with highly-recruited blue-chips. Some ended up on those lists after it was seen that Miami was recruiting them.

Winning gets recruits. Recruits get wins. Stop whining over the Pitt game. We trailed GT all game long. We barely beat a 6 win FSU. Duke was a struggle early in the game. So was Toledo. Bethune-Cookman was not the blow out it should have been in the first half. We struggled against Syracuse, UNC, ETC.
For all the grief people gave our coaches, they got us late game wins all season long. Thinking we belonged in the playoffs last season was asinine.

We had no depth, and losing our leading players hurt us. Now, with some decent recruiting, we will be more resilient and the wins will follow.

Keep crossing your fingers and hope for some more 10+ seasons, because it all leads to butts in seats and more recruits.

Yet lost to a sorry Pitt team, getting destroyed against Clemson & losing to a slow and overrated Wisconsin team.

It was a great season but it ended poorly. If we beat Pitt & Wisky I think we would have gotten Campbell.

We stumbled to the finish but, we also lost some big time players on the offense too. You gotta believe if Walton, Richards, and Herndon are healthy that we beat Pitt and Wisky and maybe even put up a better fight against Clemson.

It is one of the things I cling to when thinking about the way this season played out. It is an absolute miracle that we came out and dogged ND and VT missing our two most explosive offensive players with a suspect and largely inconsistent QB.

Had we had a more consistent and explosive offense the defense would likely have performed much better and played in favorable scenarios more often than not. The team efficiency as a whole would have been improved.

Going into 2018 we have a ton of explosive offensive talent and some question marks on the defensive side of the ball. We do not yet know what we have. Last season our only guarantees were Walton, Richards, and The front 7. We lost Walton and Richards.

Going into last season there were plenty of question marks on the defensive side of the ball and at o line, that played out rather well for us.

Had I told you we lost Richards and Walton for most of the year no one would have predicted 10 wins (should be 11) and an ACCCG appearance.

I think the loss of Walton and Richards cost us the chance at a truly special season. We probably would have only lost to Clemson but in a more competitive fashion. With those guy we may have even found a way to steal the ACCCG and earn a playoff berth.

We can't predict what next year's team will do but, I'm not ready to think we aren't poised to improve in our current state. Let's continue stacking high level Tri-county talent with big production and see where it takes us.

The better the team plays, the better we will recruit and the closer we get to competing at an elite level. So far this staff has shown no indication that the team will not improve under their leadership. I think that if this staff produces another competitive season in which we find ourselves in the ACCCG with a chance to go to the playoffs then we can feel confident that this staff can get us where we all want to be.
