Per Barry Jackson:

"Several former UM players want to be allowed back on the sideline during football games, but it won't happen in 2016 because UM banned it after NCAA sanctions that run through October.

"UM athletic director Blake James said 'after this season, I will discuss with [coach] Mark [Richt] what he feels works best and will communicate with President [Julio] Frenk on what the policy will be' in 2017.

"Regardless, Richt wants ex-players to feel welcomed and allowed at least one (Daryl Jones) to drop in unannounced during a staff meeting."

Seriously... what purpose does their presence serve?

The kids love it, recruits love it and I think Miami was actually one of the first Universities to do that have ex players on the sidelines.... **** other players from other schools come to UM to train during the off season and not their own schools...lol

Recruiting tool, especially on weekends with kids visiting. Whatever we will be fine.

It can be a motivator or an inspiration to these kids to see guys who were great here and in the pros watching them. It's also a recruiting tool, because how many people wish they could meet these guys in person? Guys go to the pros still star struck, because they did not have that much exposure.

I mean, what is the issue here?
We remain on probation and not permitting players on the sidelines was part of our punishment.
Stupid rule, IMO, but it is part of our NCAA medicine.

I think it also helps with the fans and creating a better game-day experience at SLS. Miami can't just rely on whatever process works for your standard mid-America college to get fans in. And why turn your back on one of the strongest assets this University has...it's Professional NFL success! I can't tell you how badly this Athletics program needs a top-notch marketing person onboard. This brand is SOOOOO powerful but they just don't use it at all!

What part of NCAA punishment do we not understand?
Also, people need to stop talking about brand and start showing up to games.

Nothing tangible that would result in a victory. Apparently Miami is the only fan base that thinks the team would pull out more victories if only former players would be allowed on the sidelines.

Wish it was that easy for people in Miami to just "show up"....never have..never will without major winning.
