Prior to the season here was the general assessment of our team:

  • Great Quarterback
  • Poor Offensive Line
  • Meh Runningbacks
  • One good receiver but then some meh players and freshmen
  • Meh Defensive line
  • All freshman LBs with 0 depth behind them
  • Elder and JJ, and then no one in the secondary, and very little depth

We won some games and then everyone forgot this. Going over what happened:

  • QB - Looks great when the OL gives him enough time to even complete his dropback, but can barely plant his feet before getting pressured as D-Linemen can get past our OL unblocked or with one move.
  • OL - awful run and pass blocking. Can't create holes or allow our QB to even complete a dropback.
  • RB - Pleasantly surprised, can make plays when our OL does a decent job, but usually can't get a hole against top teams.
  • DL - Coach Kool is a miracle worker, from eh to our biggest strength, they should put him on a candle (Patro saint of d-linemen)
  • LB - The freshmen balled and played years ahead of their experience, but due to 0 depth they had to be on the field every snap and have gotten worn out.
  • DB - Played well, especially Corn, but a few injuries and lack of rotation means they got worn out as well.
  • In short our OL collapsed killing our offense, our D had to little depth and was worn paper thin and then broke. We knew this.

Now for those criticizing Richt's offensive play calling, he didn't have much of a choice:

  • OL gives his QB no time to make reads, needs to try to run the ball more, use play action, and quick routes (screens etc)
  • Teams catch on to the fact that despite our great QB, we have 0 vertical passing game because our OL can't hold on to let a vertical play develop. They stack the box and run/pass blitz
  • Options at this point : Go to shotgun and abandon the run, or pound it out, control the clock and keep the game close. For the former, while it sounds good, our offense can be inconsistent due to drop passes in shotgun, meaning it's difficult to get a rhythm. It also results in our Defense being on the field a lot more, which is not something we can afford given our paper thin depth. So he went to pound it out.

This team has some glaring holes. We need some more croots.

Agree except on Kaaya,he ain't great....he can be a good one but he is weak mentally....

The lack of depth and price for playing freshman is now raising it's head. We could finish 8-4 or 4-8. I think the law of averages win out and will say 6-6.

Going into the year everyone was worried about the defense. However, the offense has been the issue. I don't have the stats but this team has to be at the bottom of FBS with time of possession. It takes time to turn around a bad team. The sky is not falling.

Remember Jimmy Johnson went 8-5 in his first year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree...we beat 4 easy teams and everyone thought we had an elite team lol It takes years of good recruiting to be an elite team. We have average talent still lingering on our roster. Yes play calling can get a little more creative but my god our fan base is just ridiculous. This is what happens when 75% of your recruiting classes are 2-3 stars for 5 years.

OP is pretty much spot on. For everyone getting after Kayaa/Richt...sorry, but I don't see anyone else carrying the team. I don't see receivers consistently stepping up. I don't see an OL that can keep the QB upright or get a RB past the DL clean. I don't see a team that can a go full drive without a penalty.

This is largely on Richt, OL, Kayaa in that order but let's be honest: it's not like the rest of the team is doing amazing work and those 3 are ******* it up. Defense looks hugely improved over anything al did, but they have a lack consistency. The TFL/sacks are great to see, but they give up too many big plays.

So no matter how much you want this to be a simple fix, it isn't. EVERYBODY needs to get better.

You are pretty spot on OP but Kaaya is very good, not great. His mobility is absolutely atrocious but when hes does have a pocket he can throw a dime. But above all to me Kaaya's biggest fault isn't his lack of mobility, his terrible under pressure decision making, or his inability to truly run the RPO, it's his lack of leadership skills. He does not have that command presence, he isn't an alpha.

Even when we pounded GT's QB to the ground twice in a row causing fumbles the dude still got back up with a swag, ****iness, and willingness to win on the next drive. I don't see that dog in Kaaya. That vocal leadership and sense or urgency. He didn't have it under Golden either.

But it's not all on him, everything the OP mentioned including Richt's playing calling (rust?, I mean the guy hasn't called plays in around 9 years) has added up to the perfect **** storm, one that we saw coming but bought into the hype after beating terrible teams.

Our OL is the worst Oline I have ever seen in my life

#63 let a midget destroy him with every move in the book... lol spin, bull, rip, swim.. etc gave up 3 sacks by himself

#73 is trash and I don't care what none of you muggers have to say about that. Pure utter garbage. Talking about move him to guard. Before he got to his 2nd step the DE would have him beat every single time.

Agree with Luciano here. Not a fan of the star system, but it's obvious when freshman starters show far more talent than that of other 'non-recuited' positions on the team. This will improve. But **** it's painful to watch that O-Line.
