He was cool with the players but he was also super respected. He demanded accountability , and could use the ultimate ace in the hole “ playing time “. Kids also respect guys that put them in the best position to succeed. Theres kids on this teaam and previous seasons that doesn’t feel the same about manny. He’s a good dude but there’s plenty of folks who have doubts about him as a head coach / leader .Pete Carroll was besties with all the players on his USC team. Didn't seem to hurt him much.

When a coach wins, no one cares if the coach is a hardass or a softie. Claiming a coach failed because he was a softie is extremely convenient because upset fans will readily believe it and they think a hardass coach will be the simple answer.

Yep. Also helped Pete was winning big at USC. A coach can be a player’s coach or a hard-***, but it’s success that gets the player’s respect. Otherwise coach speak falls on deaf ears.

Really - this is exactly what Manny is. They may like him but they don't respect him - all they do is Fck up the house.
