Even if Golden is fired....

bring butch back, all is solved. that **** ain't going anywhere if he come back. He'll take a discount. He'll recruit here better than anyone. He'll get the staff right to get the successor.

It's so obvious. That's why I'm scared it'll never happen.

hey, canedynasty can you make me a gif of Richt?

based on what track record are we expecting Blake James, Paul DiMare et al to make the right hire. Hiring a coach is often a matter of luck and circumstance. Jeremy Foley hired Urban Meyer but also Will Muschamp and Ron Zook. I have no faith in the process or those doing the hiring that we will be able to think outside the box and choose someone that will change things around. We've become a conservative university and thus will make a "safe" hire, just like our last two hires and then its rinse, repeat

Not with Butch.

Luck has it Butch wants to come back, and Butch can save and improve the recruiting class as it stands.

Only Butch can bring Miami back now... Somebody that you know can recruit the best in any situation

Hiring a coach is a crapshoot. I mean even Alabama hiring Saban. I mean he was floundering with the Dullphins, nobody knew if he could turn around a Bama program that had been mediocre for 15 years. Same thing with Pete Carol, who was a failure in the NFL his first time at it. You just don't know what will happen when a coach takes over. That said, there are some guys who have done it before and therefore have a better chance of making it work. This is why a guy like Butch Davis would be a good hire as opposed to an inexperienced Head Coach, which is what Coker and Shannon were, or a Head Coach who has never ran a program that wins big games which is what Golden is.

The Nicktator's problem with the fish was Jeff Ireland. Subtract him and I think he wins big at Miami. And no, Joe Philbin is not even in Saban's league. (he gone soon, too)

Yeah my g/f cheated on me, but if I dump her, my next g/f might also cheat on me so I'll just remain miserable.

Let's not fire Golden because the next guy we hire might suck as bad....GET THE **** OUT OF HERE

I would like to say that the admin has learned their lesson(s) from the following:

1. Coker's Extension (06),

2. Coker's Buyout,

3. RS Hiring,

4. RS Extension,

5. RS Buyout,

6. AG Extension, and

7. AG Buyout (soon to be likely)

That with each stupid decision (unnecessary extensions and poor coach choices) an expensive necessary action (i.e. buyout) will be followed. These extra actions (i.e. buyouts) end up costing us more money on the back-end and would be better spent on the front end (the hiring). But I don't believe they have.
.

The difference this time is that #theCloud caused them to artificially hype up Al's contract. The buyout for both Randy and Larry was in the $2 million range, Golden's buyout is likely in the $5 million range this year and $2.5 million range after the 2015 season. That's why I don't think he's going anywhere til after next season.

Don't trust anyone at this school to make an intelligent decision and hire anyone who isn't a POS. Will say it again: Horribly run institution in ALL aspects. Look for them to hire some clueless DB as President, too. Will make Thaddeus Foote look like effing Geebuz.

Sunk costs. You can either pay him and keep him and allow your program to suffer further damage, or pay him as well as pay someone else and depending on who you hire, there's a chance that the new guy might bring enough success to justify what you are paying the new guy. If that's the case, then there's no reason not to fire him and go with a winner.

The economics of the situation say to fire him.

You think but you don't know. I have no idea either. I do know we just received a bunch of money for Maryland exiting the ACC. So perhaps we can put that to good use. In addition, I believe that football revenue will decrease in 2015 if Golden is brought back. Many people will not support this product. Pay him and bring in a better coach. It is stupid to keep him over $2.5M+ (even thought that number is based on nothing).

The next thing is negotiating the buyout, perhaps we can make it beneficial for both parties (i.e. AG can take another coaching gig next year in exchange for a reduced buyout).

I would agree with you that he isn't going anywhere, still, as remarkable as that may seem. But the thought of another 7-5 shytshow year means we'd all be certifiable. Players would have to tank Pitt and the bowl game now for him to be gone.
