Evan Shirreffs Commits to UM

Way he holds the ball, looks like he's got some big hands.

Really good ball placement.

Great Air on his deep ball.

Amazing FSU, OSU, USC are allowed to sign a stud quarterback every year. Someone should lift the debit blockers on our QB account and let Golden know it's permitted.

To be fair, FSU's projected starter next year only had one offer (Buffalo) before Coley found him.

Winston
Constentino
Francois
Henry

That's 4 straight classes of highly regarded quarterback recruits going into the program

Constentino may not have seized the job over Maguire but they're bringing in highly regarded guys every year

Not 4 straight classes

2012: Winston/McGuire
2013: John Franklin
2014: Constentino
2015: Francois

I'm concerned about the offer list. That said, apparently, Georgia had showed some interest, so it's not like the kid was completely ignored by all the big schools. Let's hope he's an under-the-radar kid.

Im not concerned about this kid take a look at kahlil mack. Played only his senior 2 star recruit. Only offer was buffalo and went there. He put in the work and went 1st rd 6 pick. This kid legitmely has skill. Its up to coley to develop into that great back up option..we needed this kid..Kayaa is frigile as **** so we need someone like this kid who has it but just need a lil more work..

If he's good enough for Jake Reuse and Mark Schlanach he's good enough for me.

Nevermind that most people nationally see UM as a lower their ACC Coastal team now, so they think stealing an unheralded QB from ODU is a good accomplishment for the new UM.

recurring issue at this program, lack of true competition will hinder kaayas progress

Normally, I'd agree with this. I don't think so in this case, though. Kaaya is wildly self-motivated. The guy is hyper focused. "True competition" would be unlikely to change his behavior. In fact, it might undermine some of the positive things he's currently doing in bringing the team together.

Anyone acting like Cosentino ranking wasn't bumped up by that FSU offer is fooling themselves. As "highly regarded" as he was Penn State only offered him after noticing that a kid from Pittsburgh committed to FSU. Temple and USF constitute the only other schools who thought highly of him. He got the FSU offer bump. Just like Shirreffs became a three star after the Miami interest.

His HS coach says he was just a late bloomer. Sat behind his brother for 2 years, then broke his thumb after only 4 games his JR year and so no one really took him seriously during camps. Looks like he only camped at Duke and Wake. Small town school. Coach said the kid has grown almost 6 inches in the last 2 years. Just blew up his Senior season. First team All State. NE Georgia Player of the Year. For a 13th hour desperation plan B we certainly could have done a lot worse. Hidden gems are a lot harder to come by these days. But at least on paper, this kids story seems to have the potential.

LULZ. We were more HIS 13th hour desperation plan B than he was ours. Chew on that.

Agree 100%. Kaaya is the antithesis of a kid like Kevin Olsen who needed the kick in the ***. Kaaya is a scrappy smart kid who is incredibly mature, self driven, and has assumed a level of leadership on the team almost unheard of for an underclassmen.

Another reason that this could actually work out in our favor. Shirrefs isn't coming in as some highly lauded stud looking to challenge Kaaya as the starter. He's a young prospect that looks to just be coming into his own, with a lot of potential, but a kid that needs some time in the weight room, and who no one would expect much more of than being a capable back up to Kaaya. There isn't going to be a QB controversy with Shirrefs, at least not next year. Granted things could change. Kaaya could have a bad Soph year, this kid could really shock people and develop quickly, but as of now, Kaaya is the man, and no one is going to be challenging that anytime soon.

I think we got a pretty good one here. Fact is, with a true sophomore starter like Brad, coming off a year like he had as a freshman, you are going to have a tough time pulling a top QB this year. Eases up some next year and back to normal the following year, depending on who we actually sign next.

The kid looks pretty good. Needs to put some weight on dat frame but he is accurate and has a lot of potential. Fluc folks trying to put him down.

O don't you worry.. If there is one thing AL is good at, it's putting weight on players and himself.

Some posters hate Golden and the admins so much they will trash anything they touch whether warranted or not. This kids tape is not bad AT ALL. The same people complaining about this commit are the same people who prob trashed Randy back in the day for not offering Ryan Williams out of Miramar or Rakeem Cato from Central.

Congratulate the kid and lets move on.

No the same people complaining about this commit are the same people who complained about players like Daniel Stegall. Ryan Williams & Rakeem Cato were local kids with other D-1 offers.

This kid made a huge mistake by coming to UM. He's never going to be good here, he will likely never be a full-time starter...should have gone to Columbia and gotten a better education.

Hahah A lawyer is going to save Miami. This dude is in the category of Gray Crow and Dewey...... As well as Spencer Whipple.

Well Ken Dorsey wasn't considered anything but a good backup prospect for Kenny Kelly and thw same for Gino Toretta so I will give the kid time as injuries like a broken thumb are not career altering but alow a player to fly under the radar. We have to get lucky sometime.

Ken Dorsey was a legitimate top ten QB in the country. we beat Tennessee for him.

Not sure why some still think Dorsey was some no name. He was a 4 star with an awesome highlight reel.

I remember he was down to us and Tennessee. He was hardly a no-name
