ESPN uniting Butch Davis, Vilma + post-coach search thoughts

Butch can't even get the FIU gig once Turner gets fired...
I absolutely love him for what he did for our program & what he left behind for the Canes, he's no doubt an All-time Hurricane legend.
But, him acting as if he has no idea what's going on with the team is tad bit unbelievable to me & sounds like sour grapes on his part.

Fiery competitors are that way. Thats what makes the good coaches. Trust and believe Saban, Harbaugh, and Meyer would have done the same **** thing

Davis, who still hopes to coach again, didn’t study the UM roster in depth before his interview with James and said he doesn’t know enough yet about the personnel to assess Miami’s chances. But he said quarterback Brad Kaaya “is a terrific kid and a great player. He has outstanding mobility, good arm. The unanswerable question is the offensive line. Does he have supporting cast, which I have no idea.”

not a good look tbh. he's a college football analyst that doesn't keep up with the school that put him in the nfl. that's really disappointing after hearing so much about how badly he wanted the job.

OK, since when does Kaaya have outstanding mobility? I just don't get that comment AT ALL. For a guy that really wanted the job, how on earth does he say Brad Kaaya has outstanding mobility? And the comment about how UM didn't want what he accomplished the first time around? Sour grapes all day long right there. Yes, UM wants success, but they went a different direction. They went with a guy that won't leave as soon as he has success. They went with a guy that they feel is clean.

I was a big Butch supporter, but I have a bad feeling he's going to turn on UM.

He would be making a big career mistake, Vilma will not allow it to happen, he will keep it real,

On top of that. Butch isnt the first person to applaud brad on his mobility. I think they mean "climbing/manipulating the pocket" mobility not "outrun the defense" mobility.

Butch is upset he didnt get the job. I dont blame him. But yall are reading way to deep into this shid. Calm ya ****.

Wouldn't mind Jonathan vilma getting involved in the athletic department of Miami and then one day as he gains experience years for and take over as a future athletic director. He speaks VERY well, sucessful player and businessman

Brad has mobility but only when moving and evading pressure in the pocket. For a QB that doesn't have any running ability he can get the ball out pretty good with all things being considered

All he had to do was stay at UM and he would've been a legend. He didnt and now he lives with the consequences

I dont feel much sympathy for him

true but the NFL is the pinnacle for not only players but coaches as well, so I never held it against him for pursuing that opportunity. its the way he left and the alleged lies that didnt sit well.

Love Butch, but no way he survives Shalala. If Shalala wasn't here, Shapiro never happens. Shalala destroyed this program and w Butch's personality, I believe he would've been gone regardless.

This is the most insanely idiotic thing I've ever read on this website. and that's saying a lot.

Not even close. Actually not insane at all. The only thing left out is that Shalala destroyed it on purpose. Rellyell was being nice.

Dude, Brad is not mobile in any sense of the word. Kind of like every second rate TV guy raves about Miami speed, when we haven't had Miami speed in 12 years. We have been playing terribly SLOW football for over a decade.

I don't know if Butch was saying it for this reason, but I have seen so many announcers call a QB "mobile" if he isn't white. I heard them say it about Jacory Harris, Stephen Morris, and many others. QBs that they THINK run well, because why??? I'm flipping sick of that stereotype. I can understand some uneducated UF fans pulling that crap, but guys drawing a paycheck to know football?

I love Brad Kaaya as a QB, and what he does well he does REALLY well. However, running, footwork, and throwing on the run are not things he does well. I do believe Richt will help him a lot, and we'll see some major improvement this year in those areas, but to date Kaaya is anything but an athletic, mobile QB. He's a kid with a great brain and lively arm, and I'm really glad he's on our side.

Why exactly is that? Any one who truly follows the program knows when butch was here he already had issues with a far more sports friendly administration. So why is it so hard to understand that shalala who didn't focus on our athletics at all (actually saw it as secondary) would've been he'll on butch. She immediately pushed her agenda from the second she got here.

Shapiro never happens without Shalala? So the other presidents were gonna turn down his money?

TF?? Did you even read my post?? I said IF SHALALA WASN'T HERE, SHAPIRO WOULDNT HAVE HAPPENED. Can you read, or comprehend?? The point was Butch wouldn't have even made it to the Shapiro fiasco b/c he would've been gone due to Shalala, anyways. You do recall part of the reason y he left don't you?

He left because the Browns gave him a **** good deal. Shalala hadn't even fully assumed office by the time he left, no one knew diddly squat about what she was going to do, or what her feelings were towards Butch. Butch used Shalala like he used a lot of other people throughout his life, to cover up his own failings. Butch chose to leave, he chose to do so, because he wanted to be an NFL coach. There was also some animosity towards the fanbase, thanks to the way he was treated when times got rough. Remember, he had lobbied extensively after Jimmy left Dallas to serve as his successor. Butch saw himself as the next Jimmy, and going to Cleveland was the step he had to take.

Huh? Shalala had nothing to do with butch leaving. Butchs main issue was that he kept going back & forth about a contract extension with the administration before her. If they would've simply gave butch his well deserved contract at that point he wouldn't have gone anywhere.

You realize that being a successful athletic director is more than speaking well, right? Being an AD requires a specific set of skills that most develop after decades of working in athletic departments. If Vilma was interested in being an AD, he should start working in the department full time. Period. This isn't USC, and we shouldn't be stupid enough to throw ex players in the position without the proper amount of experience. Jon is intelligent, but so is Pat Haden, and we saw how that turned out.

Good lord, you can't be this stupid. Tad Foote couldn't stand the program, but he had outstanding ADs who managed the department well. That doesn't mean he supported the department, he just happened to serve as President during the run. This "Shalala hated athletics" nonsense isn't based in reality, or history. Look at Wisconsin athletics, Barry Alvarez and Pat Richter swear by her. Shalala may have neglected the athletic department(Most competent university president aren't prioritizing the athletic department), but he wasn't actively trying to sink it.

In other news, thank GOD that Robert Smith has left ESPN. Good riddance.
He was the most stiff uptight ******* on ESPN, I couldn't stand his phony buttoned up act, he was such a ******' fraud.

LOL!!! You have to be kidding right??? Strong 35th post. You can't be that stupid! See Hurricanes before Shalala, see Hurricanes during Shalala and see Hurricanes after Shalala. FOH!
