ESPN: top 100 RB's of past 60 years (2 canes)

Almost impossible to choose 100 RB's over 60 years. But it's an interesting list. Lots of names I haven't heard in a while or just don't know.

Willis McGahee should be top 10 in any list…. Anybody that played before 1980 shouldnt be in the top 25.

Dalvin should be higher than 71. I don't recall any RB much less any offensive player striking as much fear in me as Dalvin did each time he touched the ball. Even though he's a Nole, I've always imagined he'd be a Cane if we had a competent staff so I give him the benefit of the doubt!

LaDainian Tomlinson should be much higher than 49th.

He’s 13th All-time in college rushing yards & is arguably one of the top 5 RB’s ever.

Darren McFadden is easily a top 20-25 RB in College All-time as well.

I’d also rank Marshall higher. He was way better than those other stat accumulators I mentioned in my prior post (wiscy guys, salaam). Glad to see garrison ranked highly - one of my favorites to watch in my lifetime.

Only thing I liked about the list was they got Barry Sanders & Ricky Williams right (although Ricky would be #2 for me)

But the rest is all fairly debatable, but I guess it depends on the criteria they used.

The fact CJ2K Chris Johnson & Duke Johnson were both left off the list is questionable.

Ray Rice got snubbed as well & having Donnel Pumphrey as low as 61 while he’s literally 3rd All-time in rushing yards in college history is a head-scratcher. Same with DeAngelo Williams, another top 10 rusher all-time they have outside of the top 50 lol.

Kareem Hunt was another snub too.

Bullsheet, he numba 1 inn my book. Ifin he come back fur his senior seasun nobody touch his records.
What do u think would have happened if sanders played his senior year? His junior year is so ridiculous, nothing else even comes close. He ran for almost 1500 yds in 1989… in the pros, now imagine that’s against big 8 defenses

Oh, you might be right. I forgot Sanders played in the SEC.

Barry did gain 1000 rushing yards - in his first two seasons. Hershel only had 600 more as a freshman and then another 1900 his sophomore year.
Guess you don’t realize sanders had an all American and hall of fame Upperclassmen RB as a teammate his first two years

The sec is all hype now, it was even worse 40 years ago…just ask cis

I didn’t see 80%+ of these dudes play, so forgive me… but Fournette at 75 and Dalvin at 71 seem ridiculous. There’s no way they’re not at least top 30

20. Melvin Gordon, Wisconsin

19. Montee Ball, Wisconsin

18. George Rogers, South Carolina

17. Rashaan Salaam, Colorado

16. Leroy Keyes, Purdue

15. Christian McCaffrey, Stanford

14. Billy Sims, Oklahoma

13. Charles White, USC

12. Ron Dayne, Wisconsin

11. Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin

Ron Dayne refused to sign my football at a football AUTOGRAPH SESSION in Hawaii during an all-star game. There was an hour left to sign. For that reason, he's way too high (or low i guess).

I love Duke as much as the next guy, but objectively speaking, he doesn't belong on that list. He only had 1 1000 yard season and injuries marred what would have been an otherwise super productive career. Plus, it doesn't help that those were some real down years for the program (7-5,9-4,6-7) and incredibly mediocre teams. I also don't recall any big time moments in big games either. That's not really his fault because we just didn't have a good team or any notable games sadly. He would have balled out had he played on other teams. Bad timing more than anything.

At least they got the top right.

Barry Sanders is absolutely the best college back ever. The literal GOAT.

One of my favorite sleeper stats to show how insane Barry Sanders was...

In 1987 when he was backing up Thurman Thomas he was OK St's return man, and he ranked:

#1 in NCAA in Kick Return Average - 31.6 yds. Scored 2 TD's on 14 returns.
#2 in NCAA in Punt Return Average - 16.3 yds. Scored 2 TD's on 15 returns.

He's the GOAT RB. But he might have been the GOAT return man too.

Any time he got anywhere close to the open field he was deadly. Sometimes he got to the open field when it appeared impossible to do so. Houdini in a helmet.
