Defense
How the Hurricanes beat you: The difference between the Canes winning and losing was most evident in the trenches. In six wins last fall, Miami collected 19 sacks and 35 TFL; in seven losses, 8 sacks and 29 TFL. The rush defense followed suit, allowing 66.8 ypg on the ground in wins … and 198 ypg in defeats. The Canes lose their top sacker (Thurston Armbrister, 5 sacks) but will look to senior DT Ufomba Kamalu (3½ sacks) and junior LB Jermaine Grace (6½ TFL), who proved productive off the bench in ’14. Jelani Hamilton (6-5, 302), a junior who redshirted last year after playing in nine games his first two seasons, will be called on for more naps. “From a numbers standpoint, we have a lot of guys with a lot of potential who have to realize that potential in a hurry, but I like what we have,” says defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio.
