ESPN Coaching Hot Seat Report 10/12

I’m sure Blake has it in the works.

In all seriousness I’m sure UM and Oregon would work something out if he wants to come home. I mean if he’s just going to wait until January that’ll hold them and Miami captive. Slowing down both hiring processes. I’d also be interested if Miami is in his buyout , I know urban used to put Nd, Osu or both in his contracts. If they come calling.
That's not an impossible scenario. If Oregon knew he'd be leaving and could get a headstart with suffering any damage, they might agree to a lower buyout.

Which is why I'm rooting for UNC, VT, GT... ****, FSU if I have to.

Who’s to say Mario wants to come home and leaves the Oregon money on the table like Richt did when he retired. Tells Miami to use the money on his staff or football related stuff

Everyone saying we paid money to temple so we can do it again is omitting important info:

1) There was no buyout on our end, Richt retired
2) They paid Manny $2-3 million less than a new coach will cost and the new coach isn’t going sign some buyout friendly deal.
3) Manny retained the entire defensive staff. A new coach will likely want all his own guys.

There’s a big difference between a one time payment that netted out to about $3-$4 million when compared to Richt’s salary and all the points listed below.
Point 1 is irrelevant unless we had pooled together money for Richt's buyout because he was going to get fired.

He wasn't.

Richt didn't really save the university any money. It isn't like they were going to fire him and he said no, I quit, keep your $25+ million. They had every intention if keeping him and he retired and they instantly got $6 million together to hire Manny Diaz Jr. within hours.

There isn’t a money issue here. It seems more to me like this article and the Feldman article were influenced by pro-Manny sources in the Athletic Department trying to spread the idea that Miami doesn’t have the money to make any moves and that fans need to relax.

There’s no way if we go 6-6/7-5 that they can bring many back and expect that stadium to have more than a 25% capacity game to game next year. He’s killed his goodwill with the fan base and people that care about the program. The environment is toxic, just like Golden in 2014.

Wut

I don’t know why there’s still a debate about whether or not we have the money, we’ve literally always had the money, it’s just simply a matter of whether or not the BOT decided they wanted to spend it or not...

Miami’s issues are not a lack of finances, it’s a lack of willingness to spend & properly allocate funds into Football that has stifled us for the last 20 years. The people at the top have enough to transform our program overnight, they just don’t because they don’t feel like it...

IF Miami wanted to they could realistically pay a coach $6-8 mill a year, they just never felt it was necessary.

An insider article by Adam Rittenberg talked about Miami, LSU, USC, and VA Tech and Texas Tech.

Highlights

We might be in for a ****** year and a half:

- “Coaches who have faced the Hurricanes have described them as a bunch of talented parts without much cohesion or development.” 🤬
- “How realistic is a coaching change at Miami? It’s not as likely as some Miami fans might hope. The noise around Miami doesn’t always match up with the financial reality or the desire to go through a coaching transition.”
- “I think they’d like to move on if they can, an industry source said, but money is always a concern there.”
- Another source said “I don’t think they care enough to pay what it’s going to cost.”
- said we might go after guys like Billy Napier or Jamey Chadwell. No mention of Stoops or anyone else other than a few coordinators (but did say we will prob avoid a first time head coach).

Mario ain’t coming here:

- He said that his buyout is $9 million if he is hired before Jan 14, 2022. It goes down to $6.5 million after that but our admin isn’t gonna pony up for buying out Manuela, buying out Mario, and then paying Mario a minimum of $5 million plus.
- Said that the buyout would prohibit us from making a serious run and that even if he took a hometown discount the overall cost would be too high.
- he said LSU will go after him if he’s their #1 target and money will be no object. They swim in the deep end, we swim in the kiddie pool
- also mentioned Stoops for them (not for us) but said they likely won’t view him as a home run hire
- other names included Franklin, Fischer cause of LSU ties, Lane Kiffin, and even possibly Lincoln Riley

Concluding statement on Miami: “Ultimately, a lack of motivation to make a move, financial considerations, and a top candidate (Mario) who is likely not attainable mean Diaz will be fine for 2022. But he needs to show progress in the second half, beginning this week against UNC.”
With all that negative info spewed in one article I feel like we're going to go in deep for the next hire. I think the money BS talk is just that. BS
