Espn: Bold Predictions Butch vs. Al

10. Butch Davis will be named someone's coach

Davis, who hasn't coached since he was fired by North Carolina in July 2011, might be the most qualified unemployed coach in America. He went 51-20 in six seasons at Miami from 1995 to 2000 (the Hurricanes won a national title under Larry Coker the year after he left), and he was about to have UNC rolling before he was fired as part of the school's investigation into academic misconduct. An NCAA investigation revealed that UNC's cheating was going on long before Davis arrived in Chapel Hill, and he was never mentioned in the university's response to the NCAA inquiry.

If Al Golden can't turn around the Hurricanes this season, Davis might be the coach who can do it. Golden, who is 28-22 in four seasons at Miami, might have the hottest seat in the country heading into the season. The Hurricanes have won more than seven games only once in his four seasons and they're 16-16 against ACC foes.

We would instantly start destroying the world in recruiting. Instantly.

Butch wracked up all those NFL stars without the benefit of having wracked up all those NFL stars already. Now, all he has to do is pull out the list of NFL Pro Bowlers he signed and developed, and dudes will be flocking here. It'll go from recruiting to choosing.

He's a fairly mediocre game coach, but he's already proven that he's the single greatest evaluator and developer of HS talent the world has ever seen. And that's enough at Miami to produce a winner. It might not happen overnight, but it will happen in a couple years. It's proven.

you guys know much more than me honestly about the situation and about butch. But honestly do we think Butch still has it in him? to recruit and rebuild an entire program in his 70's.?

I agree he is the right replacement, i'm just worried he was the right replacement in 2006 and not 2016

I've thought about that and I think IF Butch was hired, his employment would easily be based on exactly WHO he brings in as his assistants staff.

You have to pretty much count on certain guys being on that list that would include:

Ken Dorsey: currently the QB Coach in Carolina- recruited by Butch
Rob Chud: coached in Miami with Butch, went to Cleveland - currently an assistant in Indy (was OC on NC team)
Greg Schiano: Let's be honest: Greg isnt going to get a head coaching job anytime soon, so he needs to pull a Lane Kiffin and bide is time as a successful assistant, as a Defensive Coordinator, before he's taken seriously again. He could certainly be mentioned as someone who could be the coach in waiting under Butch.

There are a number of other coaches out there that are also former players, who would relish at the chance to come back and coach at UM (Mike Rumph is one of them)

Butch would have a better staff in 30 min of being hired than Golden has had in 5 years.

Thats what Butch brings. Stability and a great stable of assistant coaches.

I miss that old school Cane mentality on defense. It would be fun to watch us punish teams again.
