10. Butch Davis will be named someone's coach

Davis, who hasn't coached since he was fired by North Carolina in July 2011, might be the most qualified unemployed coach in America. He went 51-20 in six seasons at Miami from 1995 to 2000 (the Hurricanes won a national title under Larry Coker the year after he left), and he was about to have UNC rolling before he was fired as part of the school's investigation into academic misconduct. An NCAA investigation revealed that UNC's cheating was going on long before Davis arrived in Chapel Hill, and he was never mentioned in the university's response to the NCAA inquiry.

If Al Golden can't turn around the Hurricanes this season, Davis might be the coach who can do it. Golden, who is 28-22 in four seasons at Miami, might have the hottest seat in the country heading into the season. The Hurricanes have won more than seven games only once in his four seasons and they're 16-16 against ACC foes.

First time a national writer of his pedigree has brought it up, good to know he wouldn't bring it up if he didn't have people saying it was a possibility.

Butch would have Miami-Dade kids lined up around the block to play for him, instead of getting doors slammed in his face ala Golden. We can only pray he isn't hired by someone else.

ALMIGHTY GOD

We, your long-suffering Canes fans beseech you.

Make it happen!

I can't even fathom what a headline like "Butch is Back!" would do to revive this fanbase.

I have refused to get my hopes up. But let it be! Butch will always be one of my favorites, I just don't see them bringing him back. But he would have instant buzz and bring in a top recruiting class without even taking visits.

There would be no shot in the arm quite like Butch. You would see levels of excitement that this program hasn't seen in over a decade. Guaranteed.

Mark is fairly respected reporter with good sources. He seems to think the UNC thing is not a problem. Donna is gone. Butch is a safest pick school can make. If he fails they can keep him as long as they like because we(most of us) has insisted on his hire. He will come cheap. The pedigree of his recruits brings instance relevance to the program. The return of THE U will be major topic on all sports shows immediately. You have got to believe that Butch can take any living room from even Saban or Urban. I am going to just that Butch has more pro bowlers than Urban and Saban combined have 1st round picks(remember he recruited for JJ). He might have more HOFers than Urban has 1st round picks. Maybe his is too old and maybe he is not a good game day coach, but boy-howdie it will be exciting around here if he gets hired.

Only combo of Butch and THE U can overcome all the $$$ being throw around. How much would it take to equal "Butch Davis pick me, and Oh I am going in 1st round because NFL remembers ALL his recruits.

Someone, anyone, MUST MUST MUST MUST tell Julio Frenk about this article. Please Frenk, HIRE BUTCH BACK.

I like to think about how Al first learns he's been canned and replaced with Butch. Lately I think of it happening on a Raising Canes episode, where our point of view is behind a person walking into Al's office unannounced and simply states "Coach Davis wants to see you; bring your pillars binder." I'd also like someone to punch him in his chest as he tries to stammer a retort (a la The U Part 2 scene with Rumph) and say "you don't talk when Coach Davis is talking."
