A big start to the week has East Orange (N.J.) Campus edge rusher
Esa Wittingburg rethinking his official visit schedule, and the latest offer was extended after a Hall of Fame coach watched him workout.
Wittingburg, who is 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, was offered by
Miami defensive line coach
Jason Taylor on Wednesday.
It now has Wittingburg looking to officially visit the Hurricanes, who quickly moved up his list because of the recent on-field success and the program's pedigree.
"They are definitely going to be one of my top schools," he said. "I am going to try and get a visit set up."
He made an official visit to NC State last weekend and he is slated to officially visit
Northwestern this weekend. He also has officials set to
Virginia (May 29-31),
Vanderbilt (June 5-7) and
Notre Dame (June 12-14).
"We are definitely going to start moving things around," said Wittingburg, who was offered by
Nebraska and
Indiana this week as well. "(Recruiting) is definitely skyrocketing. I am definitely going to have to sit down with some people and reconsider some things based on these past couple of weeks."
The offer from Miami is significant.
"Definitely means a lot," Wittingburg said. "Just knowing that they see me as the type of player who could play for a school like Miami and coach Taylor, with him being a Hall of Famer and the legacy he has, coming out and offering me at my high school (is big).
"It wasn't like he came out and just offered me. He watched me work out before he did. He saw me doing a couple of things so it is definitely amazing."
Taylor was in contact with Wittingburg's coach recently and decided to make the trip to north Jersey to watch him work out.
"He said he liked my bend," Wittingburg said. "He said before he came, he took another look at my film and he loved my film. Hearing from him about my workout was definitely great.
"It definitely shows me he's a guy that believes in putting in work to get to where you need to be. It definitely means a lot with everything he has done and the players that he developed to be where they are today."
Wittingburg is eager to learn more about the Hurricanes, but the success they had on the field in reaching the national title game is fresh in his mind.
"What comes to my mind is hard work," he said. "Obviously, they developed a bunch of guys that are doing great things in the league right now and guys that are still doing great things at Miami. That really stands out to me. They are developing guys to be where they are."
