All effing last night and today on eSECpn. The redemption story! The (somehow) vindication of Nicky Sabag for getting him to stay (ignoring whatever lies he told the kid). This is stuff movies are made about!!!

Jesu Christo. Hurts came in and played well. No doubt. But he also threw less than 10 passes. In a game and situation that not only didn't save mighty Alabamy's season but was actually meaningless. Anyone that thinks they weren't getting in disirregardless of the outcome of that game is more dim than a lovechild of DBC and Dan Sileo Jr.

But I get it. It's a Baga "feelgood" story and the clowns at eSECpn will slurp that goo up faster than Marty Smith reporting live from a Tuscaloosy circlejerk. Let's just conveniently forget to check in with Hurts in a few days when this sugar high goes away and he's taking snaps with the 2's again.

Saban was all blushing with reporters after SEC champ game when nobody should forget he tried to send Jalen downstream in the beginning of the year. Lol. Loyalty my asss.

Exactly. Nothing is more nauseating/hypocritical than Sabag's faux emotions/happiness. His natural state is pure ****yness and everything else is just a pained self-serving show rooted in ulterior motives.

Fully agree. Average quarterback who stayed at Alabama because it's Bama and being a back-up there is better for his long-term than going elsewhere and becoming a footnote. One snap away from getting to replace an injured Tua; playing behind a monster line and distributing the ball to top flight athletes.

Before their fifth-ranked class this year, the Crimson Tide reeled in seven No. 1 classes in a row, according to 247Sports. Zero upside for Hurts to leave Tuscaloosa to go elsewhere this season. With one more year left, he could still be gone next year, too—killing this whole faux Disney narrative.

Saban was crying tears of relief, as he knew he's have lost the SEC title game with Tua out and Hurts not his capable back-up. Period. Had zero to do with Jalen and everything to do with his personal gain.

I wonder what Nick "I will not be the coach at Alabama" Saban would've said about him after the game if Hurts came off the bench to throw a couple of picks and lose by 2 TDs.

If I'm not mistaken wasn't bama losing when hurts entered the game.and wasn't it around the 8 minute mark in the 4th qtr.wasn't the game tied with a minute to go in the game.

Ummm.... what exactly about this story was embellished or over stated?

It was the championship game, he was the backup, he had lost the job to Tua, he hadn't played much all year, he stuck it out, didn't transfer or quit, and they were trailing when he went in to the game. I agree that even with a loss Bama gets in to the playoffs, but it sure as heck affected Georgia( and OU, and OSU ,etc). Plus, whats Alabama's mindset supposed to be? Lose b/c you're getting in anyway?

And as far as Saben, again, whats the problem? He convinced Hurts to stay around( some might argue that's good planning), the kid stayed mentally ready( good on him and also good coaching), and yes, he was emotional after a comeback win. That's called passion.

We on the other hand had THREE QB's suspended, started and then benched and then started two different relatively inefficient quarterbacks, had neither of them really ready, ever, and have a HC who, if you saw his reaction after a game, you wouldn't know if we'd won or lost.

I recognize elite coaching and excellence when I see it. We used to have that here, and could have had it for decades if Shnellenberger or JJ had stayed. The fact is that Saben is an elite coach, has developed a monster program, and after all his success still has passion and intensity. Its to me like Belichek. I hated the guy for years( Dolphins fan so that explains) until I stopped the anger and simply realized the guy is an elite coach who cares and prepares and demands excellence.

When I watch Alabama its the same feeling.

Envy.

The hate is strong in this thread. And this is coming from a guy that can pretty much guarantee that he hates bama more than anyone on this board.

What Quarterback wouldn't look great with two 5 star Mark Richt misses at Wide Receiver? (Jeudy and D. Smith)

The Hurts love-fest is somewhat overblown. He actually made the smart decision by staying at Bama for this season.

This isn't the Kelly Bryant situation, where this is his last season.

Hurts would have had to sit out anyplace he went if he transferred this season. So, he's actually playing and practicing with Bama. And still has the chance to transfer out at the end of this season as a grad-transfer.

All he did was sacrifice an extra season of playing ... Meaning he'll have 1 season left to play in college, instead of 2. If he can go some place and be "Kyler Murray" for a year, he'd still get drafted.

Come on it was a big deal and it's a great story. We are talking about his new haircut right?

If you agree that the game was meaningless for Bama then that's 90% of my point. The remaining 10% would be a debate about the tone and tenor of the coverage and narrative spinning by eSECpn.....the network that spent the last 48 hrs throwing up talking heads to "debate" if 2 LOSS Georgia still should've been in the Playoff.

And a point of clarification if needed- my comments are in no way a slight at Hurts. Like I said, he played well and may even deserve praise for sticking it out at the school that he committed to. My issue is with the fairy tale narrative and the happy happy joy joy coverage Saban always gets from his network partners.

people should keep in mind that essentially all sports is entertainment. with that said, ESPissN is beyond terrible and the

fact their ratings keep dropping like whale turds is not a big surprise.
