We won that game in spite of him, not because of him.
Yes and no.
First half he looked like a deer in headlights.
In the second half and OT, he went 14-of-17 for 120 yards and a TD. When the pressure was highest, he made the throws he needed to. You don't win a comeback game "in spite of" a QB who completes 82% of his passes in the clutch.
As we saw with Beck for a lot of the season- -#1 job- especially with a good defense and a run game is to not lose the game.
Emory led a 15-play, 75-yard scoring drive in the 4th quarter to cut the lead to three. Give some credit to a true freshman QB in his 1st start who can sustain a 4th quarter 15-play drive against Clemson. Oh and took 0 sacks that game and was smart with the football.
On the game-tying drive in regulation, Williams threw a 16-yard dart to Young on 3rd down to keep the chains moving.
In the second overtime, he found Colbie Young for two more crucial first downs that set up the winning touchdown.
there are other games to look at where he didn’t look like a P4 QB, but I don’t think Clemson is one of them.
