Emory Williams

Dumb. I've said a billion times not earlier than 2030 and that view hasn't changed. But you can continue being a ******.

I already thought you were an idiot from your scorching hot takes on here, but now with the use of calling someone a ****** in 2026, I feel I totally underestimated your level of idiocy. Thank you for setting me straight

I think two things can be true at once:

1) Emory is probably way better than the QB we saw against Iowa State. If he receives all the reps in the spring and summer, I feel like we could win 10 games with him. He’s been in the system for 3 years, and Dawson must like him for a reason. A lot of it has to do with trust. Sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t.

2) After the success we’ve had in the portal the last two years, it’s hard to sell the fan base on a kid we’ve seen mostly lackluster performances out of, especially if we come up short in the national title. There is a big difference between Emory leading us to a 9-10 win season and Emory leading us to another playoff run. The bar has been raised again. Playoffs or bust for this program.

By all accounts, he’s a great kid. He works his *** off. His teammates respect him. And he’s willing to lay his body on the line to win (see FSU game). He is an easy player to root for, but that doesn’t mean he’s the right guy for next year. This program’s trajectory has changed drastically. We can’t afford to take a step back after all the progress that’s been made.

Without seeing what happens inside the facility, all I can do is trust Mario. He’s earned that after this year. If he thinks Emory gives us the best chance to win, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. I’ll cheer hard for the kid. But if it doesn’t work out, criticism will be warranted.

Beat Clemson WHEN HE WAS A TRUE FRESHMAN subbing for TVD and came close to beating FSU (13-O) same year. WTF do you want? Tom Brady? Morons
We did win the game vs. Clemson, but Emory did not beat Clemson. Watching that game, there were 5 or 6 throws where I wondered if he had ever thrown a forward pass. It was ugly. I'm not a Emory hater, but this argument is weak at best.

Emory has never been a good QB at any level. Anything else is hopium, 10 wins is not a serious post.

I don’t think it’s fair to evaluate his tenure as a true freshman. He was never supposed to play that year and was forced into action.

He showed guts as a freshman and I’ll always respect that.

If we’re going to be critical, then focus on the Iowa State game. There is a lot of meat on the bone there.

It’s hopium for the fan base. You’re right. But the coaching staff thinks they can win 10 with him. That’s the reality.

QB 1 HS numbers:
  • Passing Yards: 2,565 career yards
  • Passing Touchdowns: 27
  • Interceptions: 8
  • Completion Percentage: ~65.5%
  • Rushing Yards: 277
  • Rushing Touchdowns: 2
  • Notable: As a senior in 2021, he threw for 1,169 yards and 11 touchdowns in 12 games, focusing on high-percentage throws and leading his team deep into the state playoffs.

QB 2 HS numbers:
  • Passing Yards: 4,380 career yards
  • Passing Touchdowns: 40
  • Interceptions: 7
  • Completion Percentage: 63.2%
  • Rushing Yards: 283
  • Rushing Touchdowns: 6
  • Notable: a three-year varsity player who eclipsed 2,000 passing yards in both his junior and senior seasons.

I don't believe this to be factual. They want someone else desperately. Emory taking snaps as QB1 at any point is a failure and I think they agree based off their actions. Believe half of what you hear and most of what you see. We aren't offering QBs as a smoke screen.

The levels of competition played was not the same and Emory never won anything in high school. His win/loss % was not very good, if I remember correctly.

No, but also have to look at the team. From what I understand, Williams was the entire offense. No run game, no defense. Most of the time his team was physically outmatched, but he kept them competitive. Despite the fact that the entire offense was based on his arm, he still only threw 7 INTs in his HS career (with 40 TDs). Mendoza's was a 3 star committed to Yale before the Cal offer. Williams was a 4 star with offers from:
  • ACC: Miami (Committed), Florida State, Pittsburgh
  • SEC: Auburn
  • Big Ten: Indiana
  • Big 12: West Virginia
  • Pac-12: California (Cal), Utah, Arizona State
So lots of coaches at major programs apparently saw something promising in Williams. Also I mentioned in a different thread he was a district qualifier in 100 and 300 m hurdles so he is deceptively athletic. I think a lot of the hate comes from the fact that in his pictures he looks like a goofy, lanky kid who is just happy to be part of the team.

I would probably be a lot more skeptical of him as a starter if he hadn't put his health on the line diving for a first down on a 4th-and-2 play against FSU. Had a compound fracture of his left arm (for those wondering about medical terms, compound fracture means the bone snapped and was sticking out the skin). Kid snaps his arm in half with the bone poking through his skin trying to derail FSU's undefeated season? That earned him a lot of goodwill and respect in my book. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
