I think the thinking is:
1. The coaches needed to see how much if any Emory has improved. (They now have the game film)

2. If Beck goes down, who gives you the best chance to win today not next year.
 
Chalk this one up on the head coach. The other QB's want a chance and this clown who masquerades as a head coach puts in Williams. We all know Williams is NOT the future and is a very mediocre QB at best. Just shows you Mario is only a recruiter and can't reason why Williams has no shot here. It's hard for me to believe he is the second best QB on this team. If he is then shame on Mario for leaving the QB position in shambles after Beck. Williams looked better but the kid just doesn't have it and everyone know this. Wake up Mario!

Without any knowledge of how Nickel's camp went, it might just be Williams. But if Beck goes down the season is lost anyway; eking out an extra win or two with Emory at the helm vs true freshman Nickel is of little value IMO.

Disagree. Emory is BY FAR QB #2 on this team.

Anyone that watches practice knows this. Like its not even that close.

If Beck gets a major injury Miami isn't winning anything I get that. But if Beck gets nicked up, has to come out in 2nd half against Syracuse or Stanford, Emory gives Miami a chance to win the game.

Right now Nickel turns the ball over too much.

i dont want Emory's first snaps of season coming in 2nd half against Syracuse when we are up 24-13, and Beck has to come out with a banged up knee.

Let him get some snaps now so it isnt totally new with these pass catchers.

I'm saying this feeling really strongly Miami will have a portal QB in 2026 starting.

1. Against Bethune Cookman, there's no way to actually measure his improvement because they're an FCS team.

2. We found that out already against Iowa ST.
 
Williams played well. Yes, he overthrew a wide open WR. You could see the difference in him. The work he put in has paid dividends. I hate to disappoint, Luke wasn't ready and won't be ready all season.

Facts! It’s hard to believe that there are still porsters willing to die on the Emory Williams hill. Dude is as bad of a QB as has ever stepped foot on the gridiron for our Canes. What more do these so called “fans” need to see to convince them that he should never see the field here again. 2nd half reps should have gone to Luke.

Judd probably gives us a better chance this year. I rather have Toney getting snaps at QB than sorrry *** Emory.
Nickel should be better than Emory, if he is not than he is a waste of scholarship.
