Elijah Roberts to the portal, then SMU, then the Buccaneers

Same SOS per most metrics (not including SMUs playoff?! game)
We didn’t have a BYU, TCU, Pitt or Clemson to compare.
I know Clemson was the Conference Championship game but they count.
We have to be Realistic one of these days our schedule was cupcake!

The SMU players put up #'s against 48th SOS vs 60th for Miami (but that includes the bowl ACCCG), both played one bowl/playoff game. SMU guys played well under Lashlee.

Understood! ACC was really Bad last year, 8 teams under 7 wins, 3 teams with 7 wins, our conference has to get better. That’s a staggering number of bad teams when you compare to other conferences.

The OOC last year wasn’t great either. Ball State sucks and UF & USF being down didn’t help.

Now it’s a better UF on paper and ND v Ball State.

No doubt Smith and Roberts has great, all ACC caliber seasons after riding the bench here. But the story isn’t over yet. I am watching to see if Smith and Roberts have better NFL careers than the transfers we brought in, Martinez and Baron. 👀

Roberts was a much better college player than Barron. We will see if he plays hard when there’s a performance based paycheck involved but he was sloppy and lazy here.

As for the running backs, each team got the guy who better fit their system. Miami’s running game is all about minimizing negative plays and setting yourself up for second or third and short for easy conversions. It’s why we don’t have a ton of variety. We don’t believe in taking risks in the running game so we’ll almost always be gaining positive yards even if it lowers our chances of breaking big runs. SMU is the opposite. Rhett Lashlee has no problem running plays that gain nothing or even lose yardage as long as it’s setting up the opportunity to break a long play later. Game breakers are more important there because moving the pile and grinding out 3 or 4 yards every first down isn’t a priority for them. They will gladly trade five no gain plays for one 30 yarder. It’s why Chris Johnson will make an impact for them this year despite not being a particularly good running back. He can break big plays just not consistently gain yardage. It’s also why Damien Martinez will be a good pro running back. The NfL is not a big play league like college football. Teams want to move the ball consistently and can’t rely on big plays as much because the defenses are just a lot better.

If you don't have an explosive play you score 13% of the time = 0.59 points per drive
With one explosive you score 63% of the time = 3.40 points per drive

NFL is absolutely an explosive play league

The draft happened a few weeks ago

The thread happened 3 years ago. Maybe start a new thread?

Just asking. It's not like CIS will break if there are new threads.

Again, not a big deal, I just always wonder why we seem to recycle super-old threads.

That’s what you got from my post? That NFL teams don’t want explosive plays?

People would have been more upset if i started a new thread about Roberts lol.

Neither is posting with clarity.
Nobody else had a problem with comprehension.

I’ll try to dumb it down for you.

The NFL has far fewer explosive plays than college.

There’s not nearly enough explosive plays in the NFL to heavily rely on them to score.

NFL teams can’t afford to take a ton of negative plays with the hope of breaking one big one eventually. They need to consistently move the ball.

That’s why a player like Damien Martinez is more likely to have a successful NFL career than a player like Brashard Smith. Martinez isn’t as fast but is far more likely to consistently gain four yards rather than take negative plays.
