While Miami’s defense improved statistically last year, there was a noticeable drop in one key category- sacks. The team dropped from 9th to 31st in sacks per game and from 6th to 40th in sack percentage. Lance Guidry reached out to a familiar name to help fix the problem- Marshall DE Elijah Alston. After putting up a 6-sack season and 91.2 PFF grade (6th in FBS) in 2023, Alston transferred to the University of Miami. He spoke with reporters about his transition:

Interesting @DMoney comes out saying they will be looking at Dline in the portal after all this infusion of portal talent and arguably the best DLINE recruiting in ages.

Then we have interviews from all of our transfer portal Dline prospects.

Me thinks something smells funny. Maybe coach laying out the facts that expectations are not being met yet? Pushing out all veterans below these guys and just shopping for younger hungrier depth below them until young bucks ready?

You can’t hold the #’s we already have committed to DLine and not be talking about portal without purging multiple(s)….
 
The problem last year was we couldn’t get home with a four man rush. Which is bad business. That means you have to bring 4 or five more than ya want and that’s not something you can live with consistently now with how complex offenses are. Getting home with 3-4 is having your cake and eating it too. Having 3 back should help change that.

Scott's not here yet and will need to wait his turn behind all-world transfers Cook, Clark, Campbell and Gore.
