Elated that we won! Now, some thoughts on Guidry

The defense reminded me of the Louisville game last year. Im not sure what game plan Guidry had but throw that shxt in the trash.
That was the feel I got as well and let’s hope that’s the one clunker we get from Guidry this year.

It's quite clear that Guidry is making adjustments to the defense after each half. Just look at the opponents' offensive points pre- and post- half-time this season through 5 games:

First Half: 55 allowed
Second Half: 20 allowed

The concern for me is that he is waiting until the half to make these adjustments instead of identifying an issue and addressing in the first few drives. Good teams are going to run up the score on us in the first half and we're going to get caught trying to catchup to a lead that is **** near insurmountable. Guidry must identify gaps immediately in the game and get them squared--not wait until the 3rd quarter. I don't know what those guys in the booth are doing but the Comms needs to be quicker and clearer.

Guidry should be seeing pitch play to back in his sleep . . . and still not adjusted.
Also, prevent defenses often don’t prevent anything. You end up with a 50-50 jump ball in the end zone.

What did tech have in the second half? I mean we gave him 20-30 yards at the end of the game and the drive before we had them in a 2nd or 3rd and long and then got the PI on that kids acting job.

We prob gave up 10pts and 125yards?

We still have flaws and some positions have a lack of depth. But winning that game despite everything to me was still extremely encouraging.

This defense won't work well unless we're getting to the qb often. Need some health and rotation. Young guys in the middle got to grow up quick .

Even at marshall, it's all predicated on pressure.

We got there at times last night but couldn't bring the qb down. Front 4/5 gonna have to protect this secondary.

Unfortunately, the louisville game from last year put the weakness on tape. Golesch brought it back up. VT continued it.

We don’t have elite afletes on the back end yet and we also looked fatigued. They ran us sideline to sideline all night, great game plan by their staff.

Not a Guidry fan at all. Think he gets by on being super down to earth and likeable.

That being said, every single offense we’ve played has used nonstop motion in the back field to get our guys thinking else where, at one point fundamentals have to take hold and you own your assignment. Tackling is included in that. We had multiple instances where plays were played well and the tackling was so poor it allowed them to squeez 3-4 extra yards. That adds up.

Tired of watching a bunch of random dudes run around uncovered and QBs chucking up the ball to wide open areas. Even the limitedly talented kids can catch a wide open pass. Putting someone next to them, as boring as it may be, might be a start.

I know it obviously doesn’t all fall on Guidry and Mario takes much of the blame for the failed initial coaching hires, but it’s inexcusable that in year 3 we have this little talent in the secondary.
The secondary isn’t great but they only gave up 189. You would think they got cooked the way people are talking about them

Never let stats tell you what your eyes see. Missed tackles by secondary in space. Struggled in zone. Struggled with the motion yet again and passing the slot off. This secondary is at its best when the dl is getting home and they can man up with lack of motion. Louisville last year put the tape out there. Golesch and VT came back to it.

Look like a 2 man rush and spy.. I could be wrong, I was too disgusted with the defenders around Horton WATCHING him fight for ball and W and they just standing there.. OJ a freshman but he didnt even TRY on that play, he was ncaa 25 glitched out
man, #25 was CFB25 glitches out all game, speaking of...

We knew before the season that the secondary was the weakness. Still with the struggles and giving up only 189 I will take it every Saturday. Louisville is the only team left on the schedule with the ability to really take advantage of the secondary

Tackling across the board was bad.
He got out-schemed and out-coached.

Most of all - Why would you only send 3 guys to rush the QB on the Hail Mary???? Insane!!! When I saw that, I just couldn't believe it!!! The difference between having 7 guys back and 8 guys is minimal, as we saw with the near miracle catch, but having one more guy putting heat on the QB could've prevented all of this drama. I really hope he doesn't do that again.
My son called me in the 1st and said, It's obvious VT has us schemed really good- they figured us out on O and D. We will lose if the staff doesn't start making adjustments, and they're not adjusting so far. Good to be lucky too.

Our DL getting absolutely worked the entire game contributed to our LB/DBs missed so many tackles. They're 1on1 in space and the ball carrier had a full head of steam. Those are tough tackles to make. Just look at our DTs on TD run when Kiko missed the tackle:

so basically this thread is about the other 5 threads and conversations going on about Guidry and the defense.

Cam didn't necessarily help Guidry last night tbh. The fumble gave them the ball in our territory. The 2nd pick twas returned into our territory. The plays were there to be made.

Like, that 3rd & long TD from Drones where Guidry calls the blitz, they flush Drones out, and he throws a prayer and Meesh loses leverage of his man and it's caught for a TD.

Drones threw a screen pass where it looked like Baron and another dude could've picked it off or batted it down, but somehow it got through them and it was caught and it went for a first down.

How many times did the first guy get to the ball carrier like 5 yards behind the LOS? Make the ******* tackle.
